    7x21 spoilers:

"Life Sentence" continues a storyline started in the previous episode, "Nothing for Something". Mac's former partner William Hunt (Peter Fonda) came back, and a criminal named Raymond Harris (Clifton Collins, Jr) got out of jail. Harris has a vendetta against Hunt, and he attacks the crime lab at the start of "Life Sentence". Mac and Danny go to Harris's old apartment with a warrant. They knock on the door and identify themselves, but they get no answer. They break down the door and rush into the apartment. Bullets start flying through the closed bedroom door, so Mac and Danny return fire. They each empty a clip from their gun, and there is silence when they stop to reload. They look into the bedroom, and they see a dead man on the ground with four bullet wounds in his chest and a gun on the ground next to him-but it's not Raymond Harris.

Internal Affairs investigates the shooting, and Mac and Danny take turns speaking with Detective Angela Sayer. She takes their guns, and she asks them why they entered the apartment without waiting for ESU. Mac says Harris is a flight risk, but the fact remains that Harris isn't in the apartment, and they have an unidentified man lying dead on the bedroom floor.

While Mac and Danny were firing their guns in Harris's apartment, Harris was at the precinct filing a complaint against William Hunt. Internal Affairs closes the case on Danny and Mac, clearing them and returning their weapons. Detective Sayer tries to ask Mac questions about what's going on with Raymond Harris and William Hunt, but Mac won't elaborate on the situation. Detective Sayer advises Mac to stay away from Harris, but Mac tells Flack to make sure the police keep an eye on the man.

Dont know if this is me but after reading 7X21 spoilers I have a bad feeling it wont end well. That some one will innocently get shot (not necessarily fatal though). Though I have the perfect person for it to happen to.

I'm glad that Mac is in trouble for once, even if he (of course) ends up being cleared.

Picture of Lucy Messer that CBS posted to their facebook page.

To me, it looks like someone is looking at a photo from last year's finale and remembering how that vacation went wrong.

Well, we know that Mac is gonna reflect on the past years at the beginning of the episode, so that picture might be part of that. It is damaged as it was probably rescued from the aftermath of the shooting.

Since the finale was filmed without having confirmation on further season, it's gonna have a sense of closure while leaving an open window to carry on if needed.

"Mac will question his future in "Exit Strategy". "There's something very scary that happens to him in beginning of the episode that drives all the action in a very specific kind of way," Sinise explained. He added, "At the end of this season he's evaluating a lot of things that are going on inside of him. A lot of feelings, a lot of unanswered questions and questions coming up that he never thought about much. And personal happiness is one of those things."

Sinise continued, "It's the end of the season so everybody is moving on with their lives. A lot of them are just going on as usual. Mac's a little bit different and Jo [Danville, Sela Ward] recognizes that something's going on with him. They have a very nice relationship that they've developed over the course of the season. There are some very good scenes between Jo and Mac in the finale."

    And

"CSI: New York will delve into the past during the season seven finale, "Exit Strategy". The episode, which airs on Friday, May 13 at 9:00pm ET/PT, finds Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) seeking closure. Following a near death experience, Mac tries to solve his final unsolved case. "In the very first season, we mentioned that there's a stack of folders on Mac's desk, [cases] that he was passionate about," executive producer Pam Veasey shared. "In this last episode, he picks up the very last one." There has been no word about New York's chances of getting an eighth season, but this episode could serve as a series finale if CBS opts to pare down the franchise this year.

TV Guide also offered another tidbit about CSI: NY, which concerns Danny Messer's (Carmine Giovinazzo) career. Danny passes the sergeant's test, which is good news for him and his wife, Lindsay (Anna Belknap); however, if the series gets an eighth season, Veasey revealed that Danny's new job could cause problems for the couple. "[You'll] get a hint of how dynamically different their working relationship might be," she explained."
