  • Stella goes to..Greece?

    9.0
    "Superb"
As a native Greek, I found the episode very entertaining, despite the fact that the actors never set foot in my country! The village they walk on probably is a small town somewhere in Czech republic (You can see the license plates!) Supposedly our heroes are in Thessaloniki, Greece's second largest city, with 1.2M inhabitants, which does not look like a village at all! They show however nice frames from Athens, Santorini island, Tinos island, and some other islands. I had a huge laugh when they had a close up of Stella's phone, where she reads the article about the asvestis pesticide. They probably used an electronic translator, because no sentence makes any sense in Greek!

Nonetheless, I was happy that they showed a piece of Greece! Too bad they didn't shoot the episode in Greece as well!
  • Before writing about Alexander the Great, please do your homework ...

Sorry to rant, but even if we don't know much about Alexander's tomb, we DO know it's not located in Greece, but in Alexandria, Egypt ( one of his generals "stole" the body, so to speak ). Now, I'm not asking Mrs Kanakaredes to be an ancient history expert ( I don't pretend to be one myself ), but at least she could have remembered a scene from "Cleopatra" with Liz Taylor where the tomb is shown. So, no way the murder weapon could have come from Alexander's tomb ! ( Although I admit the episode was cautious enough to never confirm the fact. )Anyway, end of rant. This distracting problem aside, it was a nice character piece for Stella : always interesting to see a character go rogue, and it don't remember the fact that she knew nothing about her parents being mentioned before ( I only regret she plays her own mom on the photo, a trick that worked in The Pretender doesn't quite work here ). And the interaction between her and Mac is well done, as always.
  • A poor outing from an otherwise brilliant show.

I love CSI:NY, but to say this episode was out-of-character for the show would be a gross understatement. Here's a good hint for the producers - don't let the actors write their own episodes, especially if they make their own character centric to that episode.

Melina Kanakaredes is arguably the least-talented actor on the show, and while she does have her good moments, it's always been hard for me to forget that she's acting and just see Stella. She's had some good episodes, no doubt, but I think she overplays her character into melodrama far too often (perhaps a result of her soap opera experience?).

Allowing her to write an episode that makes Stella central and pivotal was just foolish. The plotline jumped around like a just-landed trout and the story was both predictable and weak. From the bad guys finding Alexander the Great's long-lost tomb to Stella turning in her badge and getting it back at the end of the episode with a grin and an "aw shucks" moment, the entire episode was a serious departure from the usual quality of the show.

In the future, I hope she just sticks to portaying Stella, not trying to write her - the character is poorly written for the most part as it is, and letting a sub-par actress and amateur writer expand on the worst aspects of the character doesn't do Stella Bonasera any favors.
  • awesome episode!

This episode was just too good to be true! I actually wish it would have been longer.

I loved all the Stella and Mac scenes, they are so adorable together and they should just stop dancing around each other and start dating.

Danny was so cute when he said that he was the only man in Lucy's life!

I hate to see Stella cry and it was just horrible that the old man, I don't remember his name, was a thief and then died. Deep inside himself he was a kind man and he just didn't deserve to die. I wish we would be able to see more of Stella's background and especially her father.

  • CSI goes to Greece and we learn more about Stella's background

The episode was a bit lacklustre for me compared to some of the other episodes this season, and this season has been very good. A Stella centric episode where it seems we finnaly tie up the loose ends of the Diakos, Greece smuggling artifacts storyline.

Especially at the beginning it seemed like it was jumping about a bit and some of the dialogue was a little shaky. Some of the highlights were that cute as baby Lucy and the little moments with them...and the partnership of Stella and Mac who i think are one of the closest in CSI franchise.
  • A poor showing from a very talented cast and crew.

I cannot begin to express how disappointed I was with this episode. So many cliches and all played out in front of an audience too smart to fall for them, I hope.

First my pet peeve, using the actor to play the parent of the character the actor normally plays! Am I the only person who gets severly insulted by this. We are not truly expected to believe that Stella is a carbon copy identical to her own mother are we?

The second cliche. Show a few random stock shots of another country and expect the audience to believe we're actually there.....nice try but I'm not that naive. Shame that the greek characters are American actors!

Third problem, not so much of a cliche, but a disbelief. 2 weeks ago Danny was suspended without pay for a marginally over the top arrest of a Neo-Nazi. This week Stella runs off to Greece, admits to running a sting with no back-up or authorization, admits to assiting with an illegal emmigration (pretty sure the guy in the container had no visa, passport or paperwork!)...but all is forgiven. Because it's Stella naturally.

What exactly to they hope to accomplish in Greece anyway...no jurisdiction! Mac would not have had his gun....yes they can carry abroad, but there are cahnnels and paperwork for that, it cannot be done overnight! And Stella compounds problems by stealing evidence from a crime scene.

Melina Kanakaredes, who normally is a mediocore to fair perfomer in this show at best, gave a listless performance of her self constructed script. She is capable of far more than this last season of CSI NY shows. Sadly it would seem that the writers/creators are falling victim to the trap of placing the same character in jeopardy season after season, episode after episode. I for one am sick of it. 2 weeks ago we had mention of Hawkes' uncle passing, a brief, but beautiful scene, and that was it. No development.

Last week the arrival of the long awaited Messer Jnr......this week, both parents back to work, small cute scene, no more required?!

I was extremely disappointed in this episode as you can probably tell. I only hope that the next season does not follow this poor penultimate episode.
  • CSI does Greece

I really enjoyed the plot and script as Stella revisits the stolen Greek artifacts. I loved seeing glimpses into Stella's past and watching it come full circle to a degree as she searches for answers about her life. I loved the CSI lab in the middle of a "Greek" village. I like seeing the pieces of the case fall into place and explain, including how Stella's mother fits into everything. I found the initial conflict between Stella and Mac an interesting side that we haven't really seen before. It was nice to see it explored as well as watching them come back.
  • A case that Stella has a personal connection to takes her to her native Greece. Mac quickly follows her there on her quest not just for justice but for answers from a man she held in high regard who may not be all he seems to be.

This episode is entertaining I will admit, but it's not one of the most memorable. I like how the case involving a Greek smuggling ring is brought to a close, but I wasn't too deeply involved in the story. There are a few positive points here. The opening scenes are well done. The performers are quite good. The well filmed scenes in Greece are another strong point. That aside, the one thing I believe makes this episode worth watching however is the dynamic performances of Gary Sinise and Melina Kanakeredes. Their excellent acting alone carries this episode. An entertaining episode.
  • Another unique episode of CSI: NY! I'm a fan!

I think the episode is great. This is a Stella episode and I dont see anything wrong about it. The evidence leads Mac and Stella to Greece and that is why they went there. This episode has lot of good points. First, we know more of Stella's past. She really wanted to know more about her mothet but Professor P remained silent. Second, test of friendship. Mac is more concerned to Stella's safety than the reputation of the department. Third, how Prof love his student (Stella) by protecting her. Fourth, we had a glimpse of the beautiful Greece! Noting that this episode was written by Melina, I think she has the guts to be a good writer. I hope she will write more episodes for thus show. I love this show and I am a proud fan!
  • CSI Greece.

Well, props on an original concept taking the show out of New York and taking things to the mean streets of North Greece, but unfortunately the execution was not strong. For a Stella-centric episode to succeed the plot needs to be especially good or a big name guest star is needed, and neither was the case tonight.

I was intrigued by the episode, and it was still enjoyable, but by no means was this up to par for Season 5 of this show. Let us hope the next episode is a little bit better and this season can conclude on a high note.

When an old "friend" of Stella's murdered, Mac has to make a tough decision and suspend her.

But that don't stop Stella, who travels to Greece in order to solve the case.

I liked this episode very much, not only because i'm Greek but because it was a good one too.

I found very romantic the view of Melina's about modern Greece.

I loved the scene when they had to improvise at the street and start collecting things. It was great!

Also the greek dialogues where very good! Nice job Melina!

Finally i liked all that Lindsay and Danny-fertility god (hilarius) scenes and the baby at the lab.

Danny was so cute and protective!
  • Ancient history, action and lots of cute moments!

Case: Really interesting all the greek history they used. For a moment I thought the professor killed Kolovos to rpotect Stella, but then it turned out it was the brother... The 'Greece' scenes were cool too. I kinda missed that sometimes they could have put subtitles because they are lots of moments that they are talking in Greek that I don't know what they said...

Melina did a great job writting that chapter!

Flack: So he knows about Angell helping Stella, and admits that he cares a about Jess and he's worried about her... SO CUTE! and Stella saying that she knows it's great too!

Hawkes and Sid moments are always great, because being both of them ME they have this special talk and are just 2 colleagues commenting their findings I loved it!

Mac: I really liked that he went to Greece and said that it wasn't for the case it was more for her. Really great argument the one at the begining she deserved it.

Stella: AMAZING! I didn't like that she hide something that big to Mac but at the end she was really grateful to have him at her side and told him everything. Really cute the last moment when they are reading the coffee grains. I'm not a Smacked fan but seeing Mac get alll nervous and almost blush because what Stella was saying was great!

Lucy: She is a cutie... I loved Danny carrying her and keeping the other men away form her...

DL: Cute/kinky teasing moment that left Adam quite shocked and blushing! I loved how Danny hugs Lindsay like 'you see how cool is my wife'. Great scene the one with Mac and Lindsay. Just a note. If Stella's mom come to the US in 1977 with her 2 years old daughter, does that meant that Stella is JUST 34???? then how old are suposed to be Danny, Lindsay and Flack? in their twenties???
  • Mac follows Stella to Greece when a case gets too personal for her.

In this episode, the past comes back to haunt Stella and threatens to drive a wedge between her and Mac. Mac finds out that not only has Stella has disregarded his orders and involved herself in a politically sensitive case, but a murder victim may be linked to her. Stella continues to try and poke further into the antiquities smuggling ring, and it leads her to uncover some unpleasant truths about someone close to her. She travels all the way to Greece to have some questions answered. When Mac is told that a suspect whom Stella was close to disappears, and that Stella has probably followed him to Greece, he heads there as well to help her out and to find a murderer while the team in New York work the evidence. When he meets up with Stella he shows her a picture that is evidence that the professor knows more about Stella's past than he let on. I liked this episode. The case was interesting and I liked the personal angle for Stella and that Mac actually went to Greece to be there for Stella with the pretext that he was there to help solve a case. I like how it highlighted their relationship and a new appreciation for it without making it about Stella and Mac finally becoming a couple. Not that I don't want them to get together, because I do, but I like that this is more of a spark that sends their relationship into a different, more romantic direction rather than just declaring their coupledom. I especially like the last hug that they had in the episode. It wasn't the typical friendly hug that they usually exchange, it felt like there was more to it. And it was cute that when Stella was telling Mac's future with his coffee grounds she kept telling him about the woman in his life that had an "S" in her name.

The scenes with new Mommy and Daddy were adorable. I like the name Lucy, I think it's really cute. It was also cute to see the affection between Danny and Lindsay, and how overprotective he was of his future little CSI. Congratulations Melina for writing such a great episode and I can't wait for you to write another one.
