Josephine 'Jo' Danville
Detective Mack "Mac" Taylor
Dr. Sid Hammerback
Goof: When Mac and Hector Vargas are discussing the crime outside of the police station, a white male extra in a maroon vest walks past and then he walks back by from the other direction twice.
The FBI, under the mutual legal assistance treaty, sent Jo to Madrid in 2004 to oversee the Madrid train bombings investigation. The attack was perpetrated by an al-Qaeda-inspired terrorist cell.
Goof: According to Sid, the bruise pattern in Miguel's neck is one week old. However, in the scene where he fights with Leo and in the one where he talks his girlfriend into helping him stage his suicide (both happening after Vern Jackson tried to strangulate him) he bears no bruising at all.
Goof: The NYPD 12th precinct entrance door looks different both times it's pictured in the episode.
Goof: When Miguel picks the blade from the ground there's no sign of the half blood drop at all.
Lindsay is teaching Lucy some Spanish.
Goof: It takes Hawkes less than one second to open the e-mail, Flack's message and the picture in it.
Miguel Martinez case is #432816.
Mac: Why didn't you tell me you were related to the victim?
Hector Vargas: Would it have changed anything?
Mac: Of course. It changes everything. Every piece of evidence in this place will be called into question now. I'll have to narrow the scope of your involvement.
Hector Vargas: Beyond what you already have? Observation, documentation. What else is left?
Mac: Asking you to leave my crime scene.
Hector Vargas: Miguel's mother's my sister. Miguel's father was killed 12 years ago in an accident. And now her son lies there murdered, thousands of miles from home. I feel it's my duty to scrutinize this investigation every step of the way. Please put yourself in my shoes. If you had a relative that was killed in a foreign country, wouldn't you do the same?
Mac: I would. But not by jeopardizing the crime scene.
Hector Vargas: Please wait outside.
Mac: Why? So you can go over her alibi? Get the details of her story straight?
Hector Vargas: Are you questioning my integrity?
Mac: Have you given us a reason not to?
(Sid is holding a knife and gesturing as he tries to figure out how some knife wounds were inflicted)
Lindsay: Planning on getting in a knife fight anytime soon?
Mac: Our homicide may not be a homicide.
Hector Vargas: What are you talking about?
Mac: I'm not ready to call it a homicide just yet.
Mac: (At Miguel's apartment) I'm not quite sure what we're looking at here, but... I haven't seen anything to convince me it's murder.
Adam: Um, what's the best way to tell someone that never messes up that they, uh, that th...they messed up?
Jo: Mac messed something up?
Adam: Oh, no. Well, I didn't say it was Mac.
Adam: (Afraid to face Mac with an important question) Here he comes. Jo, just take a deep breath, act normal. Okay, so... I said to the guy: 'next time just... use a latex glove.' (Fakes some laughter) Whoop! (Chuckles)
Jo: (To Mac) Adam has something to ask you.
Adam: Um, did you happen to, uh, use marquis reagent in your kit last night?
Adam: Uh, it's what caused the burn in the vic's clothing.
Mac: And you think I might've what, sprinkled some around the crime scene?
Adam: (Chuckles) N... no... no, I have no... I mean... I mean, what I'm trying to...
Jo: You have to admit he has a point. What other explanation would there be?
Mac: Find one.
Jo: He was hammered.
Lindsay: Yeah, with no alcohol in his stomach contents.
Mac: How do you get that drunk without drinking any alcohol?
Lindsay: Easy. You inhale it.
(Some people are having fun by inhaling alcohol at a club)
Danny: I think I saw this on an episode of the Jetsons.
Flack: I'm not a doctor but that can't be good for you.
Danny: The vapour or the girl?
(At a club where alcohol is inhaled in a fancy way)
Flack: Buy you a drink when we're done?
Danny: Yeah, sounds good.
(A suspect is using a woman as a shield)
Flack: You got five seconds to let her go, starting now. Five...
Danny: Oh, here we go again. Last time we did this, I had to fill out a lot of paperwork.
Danny: I had to call an ambulance and a coroner van.
Danny: I got blood on my jacket. Not to mention the brain tissue.
Danny: All right, look, it's your call. Don't say I didn't warn you.
(The suspect surrenders)
Jo: You know, Leo, you could've killed a lot of people tonight. Whole place could've gone up in flames. You were in a bit over your head, weren't you?
Leo: Any chance we could just forget about that?
Jo: I found your web site. Party4yourlife.org. 'Ensuring safe partying for New York's club scene.' Very catchy. A lot of bad dope out there. You make sure they take their addictive mind-altering drugs safely.
Leo: They're gonna do it anyway. Might as well know what they're taking, that's all I'm saying.
Mac: Thing I can't figure out is why Miguel was so opposed to having drugs at his club when he had them in his system.
Eva Martinez: I don't understand. You already released him. And now you're saying I have to give him back?
Mac: The embalming process at the mortuary brought up new evidence on Miguel's body.
Eva Martinez: I don't care about new evidence. I care about my son and getting him back home. And putting an end to this for my daughter and I.
Natalia Sanchez: You think I did this, don't you? Just like you thought that before at the consulate.
Jo: You found Miguel's body. You admit to having problems. You have no alibi for when he was killed. And now you claim not to have known about a violent attack a week prior to his death. What would you think?
Danny: What's everybody, bilingual now?
Lindsay: Not bilingual. I know a few things. I'm teaching Lucy, too.
Hawkes: That's good. That's the future.
Danny: Oh, what, so you two can talk behind my back?
Lindsay: Pretty much.
Hawkes: That's funny.
Danny: This is funny to you?
(About a vagrant with a history of solar panel theft)
Hawkes: I heard that's on the rise. Seems copper piping is out, solar panels are in.
Danny: Wow. Even the homeless are going green.
Flack: Let me get this straight. Miguel Martinez, club promoter and expat from Spain, invited you, Vern Jackson, vagrant and ex-con from Rikers, into his apartment. Why? To share a plate of paella?
Vern Jackson: You're never gonna believe me.
Danny: Try us.
Vern Jackson: (Sighs) All right, look, this is gonna sound crazy but the guy... Miguel, whatever-his-name-is... he came up to me out on the street. Said he wanted to die.
Danny: (Laughs) He asked you to kill him?
Vern Jackson: Paid me, actually.
Flack: Oh, he paid you. That's very smart thinking, Vern. Because now, when we find all of Miguel's money on you that you stole from him, you got a built-in explanation (Claps) Very good.
Danny: What's the going rate for stabbing someone these days? Just so I know.
Hector Vargas: (To Mac) You may have been right about this not being a homicide.
Hector Vargas: People are people, Detective. No matter where you're from in the world, they talk.
Hector Vargas: Miguel killed himself.
Mac: But somehow, the knife ended up 12 blocks away.
Natalia Sanchez: I'd say to him: 'what's wrong with you? You have everything... money, looks. How could you be sad?' Eventually, it got so bad, he... decided to take his own life.
Mac: But he needed your help to make it look like something it wasn't.
Natalia Sanchez: I was too late to save him. My only choice was to do what he asked.
Natalia Sanchez: You always hear people say that... suicide is the most selfish act. But was I being any less selfish, trying to force him to go on living? To go on suffering? If he had cancer or some other physical disease... something that shows up on an X-ray or an MRI... would it be different then? Would people understand then?
Natalia Sanchez: (About helping Miguel commit suicide) What I did... may be against the law but that doesn't mean it wasn't right.
Mac: Natalia, you can justify your actions however you need to but remember one thing. You changed your mind. You ran up those stairs to stop it.
Eva Martinez: Ever since Miguel was a little boy he had that look in his eyes. Like his father. What would you have done... if it was your child?
Jo: Oh, I don't know. Hugged him, I guess, and never let go.
