Episode Recap

We start this episode witha radio show discussing the Cabbie Killer. Callers are complaining about the fact that their commute takes so much longer than before, and one woman states "we have 30,000 cops in this city and they cant find one crazy cabbie?"
Detective Flack is bringing a man into the precinct. The man slips his handcuffs over his feet when Flack isn't looking and attempts to escape when the door is open. Flack is pushed out of the way of a speeding cab, and a body is pushed out of the cab. Flack runs after the cab but it gets away. When he returns to the dead body he is tol that it is a dead cop, James Comitus. He has markings on his neck and appears to have died from carbon monoxide poisening. Is he another victim of the Cabbie Killer?
Danny is inspecting the scene and finds motor oil on the ground; the driver must have cracked his oil pane. When he notices that ants are lining up eating the oil, he takes a sample. At the lab Hawkes tells Stella that the motor oil has an animal fat base, which is why the ants were eating it. Only one cab company in the city uses the new oil; The Five Brothers Cab Company.
When Flack and Stella go check out the Five Brothers Cab Companys, workers there tell them that no cabs are missing or damaged; because they are the only company who uses the oil, Stella and Flack are suspicious.
Back at the lab Lindsey finds monkey DNA transfer on the body, but she needs more time to see what species. Sid is inspecting the markings on the back of the cops neck and tells Mac that they seem to be random, which is inconsistent with previous Cabbie Killer victims. Another inconsistincy is the fact that the markings are made woth a different type of blade than previous victims. There are also fist impressions from three different attackers, but the Cabbie Killer works alone. If it wasn't the work of the Cabbie Killer, Mac wonders how this killer knew about the markings.
The cab Comitus was dumped from is found, and they discover that Comitus was moonlighting as a cab driver; he was dumped from his own cab.
Mac begins to have his doubts that Comitus was actually the Cabbie Kilelr, but cant figure out how anyone knew about the markings on the victims' necks. He is voicing his doubts to Stella when Jordan from Internal Affairs walks in. She asks the pair how sensitive information about the case could have been leaked onto a blog. Mac and Stella are angry about being accused, but Stella sees that the blog is Reed Garrett's. Mac tells Stella that their is no way that Reed would have seen the markings, and goes to ask Reed who is source was. Reed refuses to tell Mac, and Mac gets angry. He blames Reed for making Jimmy a target in his blog, which makes Reed angerly storm away.
Mac is reading Reed's blog and tells Stella that he wont give up his source. Stelle defends Reed, telling Mac that he is no different than they were at his age. Mac says he doesnt have time to be understanding, but agrees to go talk to Reed.
Lindsey tells Stella that the monkey DNA transfer was most likely someone's dinner; the monkey makes popular illegal bush meat. She syas that there are health risks to eating the meat because you can get Monkey Pox. Stella sees a picture and realizes that a worker at Five Brothers had it.
She interrogates the man and tells him that they found the monkey transfer. She takes his fist prints and he confesses to killing Jimmy. He said he always throught Jimmy was strange and when his friend pulled up Reed's blog they saw that Reed thought that Jimmy was the Cabbie Driver. They decided to hand deliver the Cabbie Killer to the police, but didnt know that he was a cop.
Mac is in the lab looking over evidence when Quinn tells him that a judge will issue Reed with an order of contempt if he doesnt five up his source. Mac tells her that its not necessary, calls Reed and tells him they need to meet. Quinn wants to know how Mac and Reed know each other, and gives him an hour to get the source.
Mac is waiting at Reed's building but Reed hasnt showed up, so Mac goes inside. He sees Reed's backpack sitting on the floor and his keys still in his lock. He picks up the backpack and white powder falls off. When he calls Reed we see the cab with a cross hanging from the mirror and the driver holding Reed's phone. He takes out the battery and we see someone tied up in the trunk with a bag over his head, and when the person moves the bad falls off and reveals Reed.
The cab pulls over the the curb and the dirver persuades a woman to get in; "i have three hungry mouths to feed at home," he tells her. After they get in she asks how old his kids are, and turns around and says "i dont have any children." The doors lock and the woman screams.
The cab is driving along down a highway before it comes to a stop and the cabbie opens the trunck. He sticks the woman's dead body next to Reed and closes it again.
Mac tells Stella that Reed's parents havent talked to him for a day, and Lindsey can't get a signal on his phone. Stella sees that Reed is posting on his blog, telling readers that he is sitting across from the Cabbie Killer and has been told to deliver his message.
We are shown a scene of the Cabbie Killer carving into the woman's neck. He asks Reed if he knows who he (the cabbie killer) is; "why can't you see who i am?". Reed is confused and doesnt know what to say, which makes the Cabbie Killer angry. He says he wants them to understand. Reed is afraid and asks if he is going to kill him, which again makes the Cabbie Killer angry. Back in the lab Lindsey is trying to get a signal from Reeds blog, and Danny and Hawkes realize that the white powder had to have fallen on the backpack when Reed was abducted.
Reed is posting again, and calls the dead woman Claire. Stella says that he must be trying to tell Mac something, and Quinn asks Mac who Reed is to him; he explains that he is Claire's son. Danny calls Mac over to his station and has him lsiten to a tape found in Reed's backpack; his interview with his source. We realize that his source is actually the Cabbie Killer, and he tells Reed about the carvings and says that he is certain that the killer is a cabbie named Jimmy from Five Brothers Cabs.
Mac realizes that the interview was a test, and said that when Jimmy turned up dead the Cabbie Killer knew how much of an influence Reed's blog was. Lindsey is still trying to pinpoint a location, but the closest she can get is somewhere in the West Side.
Reed posts another blog, caliming that he wishes he could go back to Australie, where he was born. Mac tells Lindsey that that isnt true; Reed was born in Chicago. He has another clue.
Danny finds out that the powder is yeast, which doesnt help much because it could be from anywhere.
Another blog; "what did Claire eat for breakfast? corn-flakeD?? Quinn says that it could just be a typo, but Mac realizes that its another clue: flaked corn. Glacier, Comet, flaked corn and Australia are all things used in beer brewing. They find an abandoned brewery in the West Side and there is a taxi outside. Once they walk in they see the Cabbie Killer walking out with "Claire" wrapped in a tarp. H contemplates for a minute, then drops "Claire" and runs. Mac chases after him but he jumps off the building and onto a truck below, escaping on foot. Stella calls to Mac on his walkie-talkie and tells him she needs his help. We find her holding her hand over Reed; his neck was slashed and her hand is too small to stop the bleeding. Mac comes over and puts his hand over Reed's neck, telling him to stay with him.
Reed is in an ambulance on his way to the hospital. He lost a lot of blood, but there is a pulse.
Back at the brewery Stell coments that he didnt live there, it was just his "office". Hawkes tells her that luckily he is out of an office for awhile. Jordan walks in and asks if Mac is at the hospital. She is upset that she didnt know about Reed and wants to know how the mayor will explain the fact that a killer escaped. She tells Stella that the mayor is handing the case over to the FBI.
Lindsey and Danny figure out the the Cabbie Killer used the radio presets to flood the cab with carbon monoxide. A fingerprint on the knife used to cut Reed matches one on Jimmy's cab. Danny quickly realizes that the two got into an accident and the Cabbie Killer had Jimmy killed so his taxi wouldnt be searched.
At the hospital Reed is waking up and Mac is sitting by the bed. He needs Reed's help. He says that Reed led them to him the first time, and wants to know what he remembers. Reed gets a pen and paper and tells Mac that he was in the car for 35 minutes before they hit gravel and pulled into a building. He could see a Fendi billboard through high windows. They were there for about thirty minutes; the Cabbie Killer took a shower. He writes that he smelled candy corn, and is sure about it.
Quinn says that there is a candy corn factory in Fort Lee, NJ. Because he didnt have time to travel so fair in 30 minutes, Stella says that Reed must have been in Washington Heights, downwind of the factory. Lindsey says that she found a firehose in the cab, and it was definitly used. He must have found it in the building he lived in, which they figure is an old abandoned firehouse. Cops surround the building and we see the Cabbie Killer sitting on his couch reading the Bible. He quotes something, stating "I am Carn. I had to do it. all people who are doomed must be put to death." Mac says that the quote is from Laviticus, 27-29: L2729- the carvings on the victim's necks.
We watch as Mac wheels Reed out of the hospital and hails a cab. The pair get into the cab and we watch as they sit in silence.
Mac is saying "He was a ticking time bomb. Alone and elusional, the faces on the billboards made him angry. His victims were sinners who were doomed and in need of redemption. He saw himself as Carn, the ferryman from Greek mythology who gave riders passage across the River Styx. Now that he's locked up forever, New York can begin to heal. We all can begin to heal.
