  • A young kid gets shot in front of his younger brother...

    9.0
Ok, first of all, I loved it... It definitely wasn't the best chapter ever but it was good enough, although I have to confess that by the title of the chapter and the promos I was all the time knowing that the kid was lying and that annoyed me a little. But I ahve to agree that it did surprise me at the end that Sam didn't shoot his older brother. Btw, how was Troy getting run over by the bus!! When Flack pulls him out and Troy's right arm is turned in every direction...WOW...

I, of course, loved that there was sooo much Flack in this chapter and that he had so cute scenes with the kid. Kuddos to both of them, Eddie and the kid, because they did a good job... especially the kid that managed to cry in most of the scenes!

The little DL moment was cute. He just says Babe and she exactly knows what he means...

Adam was too funny with the pig, and maybe I'm wrong but is it the first time he fires a gun?? I don't remember him holding one before...

I loved that even the there was no body they made Sid appear.

Stella was doing some science as a difference from the latest chapters where she seemed to boss a lot and do nothing...

Hawkes was great as always. And now a special mention to Aubrey/Mac...I like the pair so I'm just gonna say that they were cute, I liked the last scene wit Mac's face looking when she suggest they go to her place... pizza place!

    All in all, better...moreless
  • Everything is not as it seems......

    9.0
In this episode of CSI New York, the following happens. When a 14 year old boy is shot on the way home from school, the CSI team are called in to investigate. The only witness to the crime is Nicky's brother. What seems to be a straight forward case, turns out not to be. When they find Nicky's missing backpack, they find money inside of it which has been stolen from a bank. When they go to the bank, they learn that it was Nicky who robbed the bank. He asked for $933 as it was the amount needed to pay the rent on the apartment, they shared with their mother since their father died. When confronted with the truth, the witness admits what really happened.moreless
  • Unusual Suspects

    6.5
In this episode playing off the film The Usual Suspects, we saw a kid become the vital witness to a shooting, and how often kids can be both frightened and unreliable in this situation. The child was played by Aaron Refven who many know for his one year tenure as Morgan Corinthos on General Hospital.

The episode was unique in its approach, but a bit boring at times. CSI: NY's ratings are down (in fact the franchise is down across the board) and I think part of that is how many scenes they show lab people dealing with forensics. I get that the show is called CSI, but you have to admit the scenes with loud rock music playing (and Abby is nowhere to be found) and the people sweeping down bones is not exactly riveting television.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • Nicky's baseball cap is Derek Jeter's (#2) from the New York Yankees.

    • The school book where the bullet get trapped is American Government by J. Nessi and D. Cabral.

    • Goof: Nicky Harris is shot in the lower front right side of his stomach. However, and even though his backpack is only hanging from his left shoulder, it gets pierced by the bullet on its left side.

    • Goof: Sam's shirt is blood stained on his left side; however, he uses his right arm to grab Nicky and help him walk after he's been shot in his lower front right side.

  • QUOTES (34)

    • Mac: Well?
Aubrey: It's all right. Not bad.
Mac: Not bad? That's the best slice in the city.
Aubrey: Okay, I give it high marks for the right amount of cheese. The crust is perfect. But the sauce is just too sweet.
Mac: Sweet is what makes it so great. There's crushed carrots in that sauce.
      Aubrey: Carrots in tomato sauce?
      Mac: Yes.
      Aubrey: That's blasphemous.

    • Aubrey: Don't try to talk, honey. It's going to be all right.
Nicky Harris: Where's Sam? He's got to give it to... he's got to give it to mom. He's got to give it to mom.

    • Flack: Look, Sam, it's real important for me to know more about why that man shot your brother.
Sam Harris: He wanted his watch. But you can't tell my mom about it, though. Nicky wasn't supposed to take it out of the house.
Flack: Your secret is safe with me. What about the watch?
Sam Harris: It was made of real gold. It's called a Rolex.
Flack: Why did Nicky have it?
Sam Harris: My dad gave it to him before he died. I told him not to bring it to school, 'cause I was afraid he might lose it. Didn't even fit him too well, anyway.

    • Flack: It's going to be a while before your brother wakes up. So in the meantime, I'm going to need you to help me catch the man who did this to him. Think you can do that? (Shows him a small size NYPD shirt to get changed into) Make a real cop out of you.

    • Danny: You find our smoking gun, Doc?
Hawkes: It's definitely been discharged. Won't know exactly when until I get it back to the lab.
Lindsay: Where did you find it?
Hawkes: Trash can. Over there, right on top.
Lindsay: Meaning whoever dumped it was in a hurry.
Danny: Or they were just plain stupid.

    • Aubrey: You know, all my time in Afghanistan, and I will never get used to a child being in one of those beds.
Stella: It's the worst part of our job.
Mac: The day we get used to it is the day we should walk out the door.

    • (Flack has been playing with Sam on his computer and distorted a picture of the kid's face)
Flack: I mean it, buddy. You don't smile, I'm going to take that photo and I'm going to e-mail it to every girl in your school.
      (Sam smiles)
Flack: There it is. There you go.

    • Flack: (To Sam as he shows him the pictures of some suspects) Recognize any of those ugly mugs?

    • Sam Harris: Can you see if Nicky woke up yet?
Flack: I just called them like ten minutes ago. What did I tell you?
Sam Harris: I'm gonna be the first thing he sees when he opens his eyes.
Flack: I don't say things like that unless I mean it. Okay? Your mother's over there with him now.
Sam Harris: You didn't tell her about the watch, did you?
(Flack makes a face meaning he didn't)

    • (Mac tackles Cook to the ground)
John Cook: What the hell is this? You guys don't got nothing on me.
Mac: (Realizing he is wearing a golden Rolex) I'd say we've got everything we need.

    • Mac: (To John Cook) You might be a badass on your neighborhood block, but when you get on the cell block, you'll be just another punk who shot a little kid in the back.

    • John Cook: You can run your little game on me all day long. All you got is what? Possession of stolen property and some kid who needs to wash his hands a little better.
Mac: You just better hope that little boy doesn't die.
      Stella: Cocky bastard.
Flack: Well, he's been in that chair before. He knows the drill.

    • Adam: Can I ask you to take a look at the photos of Nicky Harris's wounds?
Sid: Oh, sure. What's going on?
Adam: I'm not sure. Is there a chance they could be reversed? I mean, could the entrance wound be the exit wound or visa versa?

    • Sid: When something presses on an exit wound in a manner that restricts the expansion and tearing of the victim's skin, we call it a shored wound. Shored wounds appear smaller than usual and can be mistaken for an entrance wound.

    • Sid: Eco-friendly textiles. They make everything from jackets to handbags with the stuff. I even have a pair of sneakers. They're comfortable, though I must tell you, for whatever reason, foot odor is a major issue.

    • Mac: Sam was there. Maybe he can point us in the right direction.
Flack: I don't think he's ready, Mac. You should've seen him in that room. That line-up took a lot out of him. He was looking directly at Cook, but he wouldn't identify him.
Mac: Then we'll have to find another way.
Sam Harris: I think I can do it. I think I can show you guys what happened.

    • Danny: Hey, babe...
Lindsay: (Reading his mind) Yeah, I'll meet you by the car.

    • Flack: My gut as a cop? Sam wants to help us, but he's too young and too messed up to remember what happened.
Danny: My gut as a CSI is that the wound was a through and through, so where's the blood spatter? Where are the impact marks? Where's the bullet?

    • (Impersonating Robert De Niro in Taxi Driver while talking to a dead pig)
Adam: You talking to me? Huh? You talking to me? Well, who the hell you talking to? I'm the only one here. (Shots the pig) I'm still standing here. Go on, make your move.
Mac: Taxi Driver. One of my top five films of all time.
      Adam: Sorry, Mac, I was...

    • Mac: Sid said you had some doubts about the Vic's gunshot wound.
Adam: Yeah. You remember the polymer fibers we pulled off the back of Nicky's shirt? Think they came from a backpack.
Mac: And you're thinking that backpack shored the wound, altering its appearance?
Adam: That's exactly what I'm thinking.

    • Mrs. Harris: I know Sam's a witness and you need his help, but he just lost his father, and now his brother's here in the hospital, and... he's just a kid. He can't handle all these questions. I think he needs a break right now.

    • Mac: What do we have here?
Stella: I'm guessing that's not lunch money.
Mac: Dye pack from a bank. Radio receiver sends out a signal to a timer. If the money moves a certain distance away from the bank, the signal cuts off, causing the dye pack to explode.
Stella: Rendering the stolen money useless.
Mac: Troy Castro robbed a bank.
Stella: Question is, how did Castro's stolen bank loot end up in Nicky Harris's backpack?

    • Hawkes: The stria on the slug that was lodged in Nicky's backpack matches Castro's gun.
Stella: Well, if Castro shot Nicky, then how did Johnny Cook's DNA end up under his fingernails?

    • Hawkes: Seven First Federation branches, each robbery roughly two weeks apart. Same description, same note. Now, a bank branch was robbed yesterday around the same time Nicky Harris was shot.
      Stella: Where?
Hawkes: 12 blocks from the crime scene.

    • Teller: Five-foot-seven or eight. Slight. It was just before closing at around 3:00. He walked up to the window, pointed a gun at me and passed a note asking for $933.
      Stella: Exactly 933?
Teller: I know, odd amount, huh?

    • Flack: I'm sure this isn't the only cap with Derek Jeter's number on it floating around the city. Doesn't prove anything.
Stella: Well, it proves that Nicky was in the bank with a gun and a note.
Flack: Come on, Stella. Troy Castro robbed that bank and the only reason he hasn't confessed to it is 'cause he's dead.

    • Stella: Sam had to come up with something. So he used the watch robbery from three days ago to keep us from learning the truth.
Flack: The truth? So far everything I'm hearing from the science guys is based on speculation!

    • Hawkes: Castro was due to strike First Federation.
Stella: We believe that he was casing the branch, he saw Nicky and Sam robbing the bank, so he followed them into the alley and robbed them.
Hawkes: The gun I found on top of the trash can belonged to those boys, Flack.
Flack: But you have zero forensic evidence to prove that. And please, one of you tell me where those kids got a gun.
Stella: You got to let go of your feelings for this kid, Flack. Sam Harris was lying to you.
Flack: Sam Harris does not have it in his DNA to lie like that.
Stella: Unless he had a very good reason.

    • Mac: Troy Castro didn't rob that bank, Sam. You and your brother Nicky did.
Sam Harris: Nicky said that if I told anyone, we'd go to jail. (Crying) I don't want to go to jail.
Mac: You're not going to jail. I promise. We know what went down, Sam. We just need to hear it in your words.

    • Mac: Nicky gave the bank teller a note asking for exactly $933.
Mrs. Harris: Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Nine... $933?. That's our rent. Sam must have heard me on the phone saying I didn't have it.
Sam Harris: I told Nicky we were going to get kicked out of the apartment. He said we had to look after you now, 'cause dad was gone.

    • Mac: The man who took your brother's watch, it was this man, wasn't it? (He shows Nicky a picture of Johnny Cook)
Sam Harris: Yeah, that's him. He stole it three days ago.
Flack: That's why you created his face for the composite sketch, as opposed to the guy who really shot your brother, Troy Castro?
Sam Harris: I was scared that If I described the man who shot Nicky, you guys would find out we robbed the bank.

    • Flack: Can you imagine the burden that little guy was carrying around? 12 years old. He's protecting his older brother and his mother.
Stella: Still can't wrap my head around the fact that they thought robbing a bank was their only option.
Flack: Luckily the D.A. and the bank president agreed not to press charges. And money's been pouring in from the public. Should be enough to keep a roof over their head for at least a little while.

    • Aubrey: (Signing some medical charts) I swear, sometimes it takes me half an hour just to get out the door.
      Mac: I know that feeling.

    • Mac: How about some dinner? We can pick up where we left off.
      Aubrey: How about my place?
      (Mac makes a surprised face)
Aubrey: I meant Metrano's, my pizza place.
