Curb Your Enthusiasm

Larry David changed the world of comedy forever with the long-running Seinfeld. He did it again in 2000 with the innovative and entertaining Curb Your Enthusiasm program. "The Ski Lift" is quite possibly the finest example of CYE in its six season history. Non-stop, original jokes that are far and above anything else on television. From Larry David pretending to be a sterotypical Jew at the Kosher deli to saying, "What are you ******* nuts?" on the ski lift, regarding jumping off it, to eating the edible undies after the girl actually did.



With a lot of formulaic, or simply not pleasing comedies on TV in the 2000's, it's refreshing to watch one of the greatest writers of our era star in a show so great.

I wouldn't give this a ten, but since our rating choices are limited that's what it gets. (F*ck you TV.com, give us the 100 point scale back) My favorite Curb Your Enthusiasm moment is when Larry looks at the orthodox Jew and says; "what are you, f*cking nuts?" The ending was great, and Mo Collins did a good job as the nurse. This was just a very funny episode. Larry's fake Hebrew is great, and Susie pretending to be Larry's wife was fun to watch. The dialogue on the ski lift makes this episode one of best in the season, and one of the best in the series.

Classic. Classic, really. I mean, an event such as this really demands the 'ol shake of the head. Poor, poor world, if it takes Larry to come down and save us.

I saw disaster coming from the moment Larry mentioned "saving his life" and I instantly realized that anyone Larry would try to save is in for a very rude awakening. I watched with stunned and horrified amazement as he managed to let his lie spiral completely out of control and finally cap off with a kamikaze leap from a ski lift just to adhere to a woman's religious beliefs. I saw this coming.

Well, okay, not the jump, but the whole imminent disaster was pretty obvious. I just wanted to see it.

Basically, Larry managed to take the lives of people, cause as much chaos as possible, and managed to get himself still labeled as the villian. Not that he didn't deserve it. And not that I didn't enjoy it, but let's face it. Laughs aside (and I had plenty), if anyone is going to ask Larry to save their life - be it their faith or donation of an organ - they are BEGGING to take a fall.

This was a great episode, though it seemed like it could have easily been the front end of a two-parter. We're still left wondering a few things at the end, though nothing this season will probably leave me laughing as loudly as the sight of Larry David chowing down on some edible undies at the top of a stuck ski lift, and offering some to the Orthodox Jewish woman sitting next to him.

After a dragging season opening, this show seems to finally be getting back on track. This episode, along with last week's ("The Seder"), are finally delivering on the dyspeptic laughs we have come to expect from Larry David's mind. Guest star Mo Collins (MadTV, Arrested evelopment, The 40 Year-Old Virgin) was ably used as the nurse to the ailing Richard Louis. Her stance on her lovers' sexual prowess, and the backlash that ensues, opens up a Pandora's Box of sorts for filthy humor and the perpetuation of the fragile male ego's defense mechanisms. Also, Larry's portrayal of a devoutly Jewish version of himself is something we always new he had in him and finally got to see. Hopefully, the last few episodes of the season will keep up the pace of these last two, and then we may get another year inside the world of Mr.David's demented head.

This episode was slightly longer than most episodes (33 minutes), but thats an advantage. Characterizations are good and the writing is great. I loved how Larry doesn't know any Jewish so he made some up - that was funny. In a way I feel that Larry is being selfish by not giving his best friend one of his kidneys, but in another its a big deal. This episode was a little slow at times, mainly before the 10 minutes mark, but other than that, the pacing is excellent.



A great episode and I look forward to the final two episodes of season 5.
