Curb Your Enthusiasm

This was definitely not my favourite storyline. It starts with a completely unrealistic situation: a son, who can afford to travel, is not told of his mother's death and funeral? Stretching the typical parent reaction of "we don't want to trouble our children" a bit, can raise a smile, but the death of a parent may be just too much. From that point onwards the episode goes wrong. When Larry starts to use his mother's passing to get out of awkward situations, he turns into the "worst of George", that other Larry incarnation from Seinfeld. I have always felt that Larry is not a bad person, just someone who occasionally says the wrong thing or has (perfectly normal) moments of selfish behaviour. You can identify with some of his faux pas. Not here. Here we get a thoroughly unpleasant person ... and not very funny.
