After going through Season 6 for a second time, I find it hard to figure out what the problem is with Season 6 of Curb.. people complain about its lower quality, about how the humor is not as good.. but in episodes like this, The Bat Mitzvah, The Anonymous Donor.. they're as good as any other episode of the show. I personally think this season is better than Season 5 and some of the earlier episodes as well. The plots are just as entertaining and we get some classic lines, especially from Leon.
Speaking of Leon, he stole in the show in the few scenes he was in. Him and his "long balls" speech with Larry was priceless, and to this day, I still can't stop laughing whenever I hear him say "Long Ball Larry." He just has a distinct sense of humor that's completely different than anyone else in the show.
In this episode, it's a bit strange to see Larry suffering from such serious problems.. usually breakups don't happen to him, and Cheryl puts up with him regardless of what he does, but things got strangely serious here.. of course, we see Larry treat everything the way he normally does: mourn for about two seconds before he deciding there's something wrong with the size of the plates he's being served with or worrying that a waitress thinks he's lying about his wife splitting up with him. His priorities are what make this such a funny episode. When Cheryl comes back to the house to get her stuff and he starts asking if she'll call the waitress to confirm their splitup, it was so awkward that it was funny, something Curb has built its repertoire around.
Overall, Season 6 was pretty solid, and this was just one of the better episodes.
