Show Summary

  • Ended
George Cole plays the archetypal dad of the title, blissfully unaware of how easily he can drive his son, Alan, to distraction. Alan, in turn, desperately wants to communicate with his own son, Vincent-and he is determined that Vincent doesn't suffer the same childhood embarrasments he remembers so vividly. But his attempts, although well-meant, often end in disaster. In the midst of it all Alan's wife, Beryl, keeps the peace, tends the wounds and tries (usually unsuccessfully) to inject some sanity into the proceedings.

During the show's first season it aired on Thursday evenings at 8:30pm, however for its second season, the show moved to Monday evenings at the same time.

Dad was midly successful and enjoyed a 2 season run on BBC One.moreless

  • George Cole (as Dad) and Kevin R.McNally (son Alan) in a quirky BBC1 situation comedy from late 1990s.

    "Superb"
This comedy show was at times side-splittingly funny, with moments of surreal humour developing out of everyday situations. The great talents of George Cole and Kevin R.McNally being demonstrated in their interpretation of the scripted material and their timing. One of the very best BBC comedies - farcical and usually good-natured. Don't remember any smut or nastiness in this show - which is probably why it was not a big hit with general viewing audience.moreless

  • I can see how some people say that there are problems with Dad but I personally think that it is still very enjoyable.

I can see how some people say that there are problems with Dad but I personally think that it is still very enjoyable. It's nowhere near some of the other shows that I've watched lately but it's just because those were particularly good not that Dadwas particularly bad. Recommended if you have time to spare.
