The platoon travel to a secret location to be trained at a battle school. After a long train journey and a march in which they get hopelessly lost, they arrive late and end up missing two meals and the third is virtually inedible. Starving and tired the platoon take on the assault course in which they try their best to get back at Mainwaring for getting them lost. The platoon then have to capture the 'enemy's camp' held by Captain Rodrigues and his men. This task looks impossible but can Mainwaring save the day and win back the respect of his troops? Meanwhile Walker tries to raid the nearby farm to get food for his starving comrades.moreless

      • Goof: (Revealing Mistake) The seperately filmed moving countryside, added to the train scene using chroma key, shows the train as if moving at full speed when Godfrey climbs back into the carriage.

    • QUOTES (8)

      • Frazer: I want to congratulate you Captain Mainwaring
        Mainwaring: Thank you Frazer
Frazer: I never doubted you for a single minute!

      • Mainwaring: Just leave everything to me. After all, I've never let you down yet have I?

      • Walker attempts to steal a chicken from the nearby farm but the farmer catches him.
Walker: I was just taking it across the road

      • Jones: I just wanted you to know I've still got faith in you.
        Mainwaring: Thank you corporal.
Jones: ...even if noone else has.

      • Jones: Permission to whisper Sir?

      • Jones: Don't you worry about us senior soldiers. You can do what you like to us, we can take it and we can dish it out. We're very good with the old cold steal sir. They don't like it up 'em you know sir? They don't like it up 'em sir! THEY DO NOT LIKE THE COLD STEAL UP 'EM SIR!

      • Walker: (Talking sarchasticly to Mainwaring) Do you think that this course includes map reading?!

      • Mainwaring reads the front of one of two envelopes he's been given.
Mainwaring: 'Sealed Instructions for Opening Sealed Orders'
He breaks the seal on the envelope and takes out a piece of paper...
Mainwaring: 'Break the seal on the sealed orders and then destroy these instructions.'

    • NOTES (4)

    • ALLUSIONS (1)

      • Blacked out signposts: The Platoon march through the countryside passing blacked out signposts. This is an accurate allusion to what really happened during the war. It was a trick used to confuse invaders.
