  • Barbara Bel Geddes

    Eleanor 'Miss Ellie' Southworth Ewing

    9.5
When Barbara Bel Geddes died, it was inevitable that obituaries should highlight her long-running role in one of the silliest things she was ever in - TV's "Dallas" - rather than her marvellous work on Broadway and in the cinema; Miss Ellie took precedence over her heartbreaking performance in Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece "Vertigo", or her brilliant comedy work on stage in the original productions of "The Moon Is Blue" and "Mary, Mary". The TV niche she settled into in the 1970s was also at odds with her earlier work in the medium - she had been unforgettable under Hitchcock's direction on another occasion (in the same year as "Vertigo") in the classic "Lamb To The Slaughter" episode of "Alfred Hitchcock Presents". This was said to be Hitch's favourite segment in the show's long history, and is generally held to be the best of the handful he himself directed. When she went into "Dallas", her film career was already over and she later claimed she had been "flat broke" when she accepted the role of the Southfork matriarch. One hopes it was at least a lucrative engagement.moreless

Many famous actors played lovers for Lucy. Some of these included Fredrick Lehne, Timothy Patrick Murphy, Andrew Stevens, Randolph Powell and Christopher Atkins. Tabloid's are something Ms. Tilton knows a lot about, during the early to mid eighties, being on one of the most popular series on television, was consequently a target for the tabloids.
