J.R.: (to Jock's portrait) Thank you, Daddy. And I love you, too. And I'll never let those bastards get me down.
J.R.: (reading Jock's letter) ...There are certain things that I've always held true and I pass them on to you. Any man can win when things go his way. It's the man who overcomes adversity that is the true champion. And when your back is to the wall, remember that a cornered animal is the most dangerous. Keep your enemies close, but your friends even closer. And when things look darkest, remember your heritage. Never stop trying. Never let the bastards get you down...
James: My father could really use you. Michelle: Well, I like to keep an open mind... but Cliff's becoming a very important man. James: But you don't love him. Michelle: I don't even sleep with him. (James and Michelle kiss) James: Ha, he's dumber than I thought.
James: I wanted to see if there was maybe some way I could convince you to help my father. Michelle: I hear the Lord helps those who help themselves. James: Sometimes the Lord needs a little push in the right direction. (James kisses Michelle) Michelle: That's a start.
April: I know how terrible these last few days have been. I want you to forget them and just relax. You know, you can't fight this alone, so if there's anything I can do to make it all better... Bobby: Would you consider shooting Cliff Barnes for me? April: I've got something just as bad. I let him have Shelley.
J.R.: Oh, James, I'll always love, Vanessa. More now, I suppose, because we have you in common. But Cally and I are a team for life. James: Yeah, I know. I hope I get that lucky someday. J.R.: Well, don't make it too soon. There's a whole bunch of beautiful flowers out there just waitin' for plucking.
J.R.: Marilee, why don't you take your faded charms to another table? Marilee: Not before I meet this, uh, darling young man. J.R.: Marilee Stone, this is my son, James. Marilee: Really? Heh, one of your better kept secrets. His mother anyone I'd know? J.R.: Oh, I doubt it. She's a very civilized person.
Marilee: Well, J.R., drowning youself in drink? Who could blame you? J.R.: Always nice to have a concerned friend drop by with a word of cheer. Marilee: To think that you might have dragged me down with you. What a disaster. (to James) I don't know what you're doing with him, but, uh, take my advice and run while you can. James: No, I'm comfortable here. Thank you. Marilee: That's what the man in the electric chair said... before they pulled the switch.
Harv: Now, if they establish Ewing Oil's liability, it will lend credence to McKay's lawsuit. Now, with the kind of money he's talking about, if he should win, Ewing Oil might very well cease to exist.
J.R.: Before this is over, I want Cliff Barnes' head on a platter—with an apple in his mouth.
J.R.: Look, I know how you feel. I felt the same way when I found out about Ray Krebbs. I was afraid my daddy might love him more than he loved me and... I resented your Uncle Ray, I really did. John Ross: So what happened? J.R.: Well, when I got over the shock, I was the first one in the whole family to treat Ray like a real brother. And, in the end, Ray and I became as close as Bobby and I are. And that's the way I want you and James to be. John Ross: I'll try. J.R.: That's my boy. John Ross: If you loved Uncle Ray so much, how come you used to make jokes about him? J.R.: Well, that's just a game Ray and I play.
Bobby: What do you want, McKay? McKay: My lawyers have a little something for you. Lawyer: This is notice of civil proceeding being instituted against Ewing Oil and, specifically, Bobby James Ewing, president, by Carter McKay, on behalf of Weststar. J.R.: On what grounds? McKay: For negligence, for operating an unsafe tanker, maliciously ramming a Weststar tanker, damages for all the oil I lost, for the total costs of the clean-up and for any other damn reason I can think of to break Ewing Oil once and for all!
April: I was wrong to try to keep you two apart. Michelle: That's what I said. April: So you did. If ever two people deserve each other, it's you and Cliff. Cliff: Hey, that sounds like an insult. April: That's the way it was intended.
Lucy: He cheated on her so much he made her an alcoholic. James: Is that why he divorced her? Lucy: No, she divorced him... once she finally got her life together and stood up to him. I tell you, I don't know how she put up with him all those years. James: The same way Cally does, I guess. Lucy: Ho ho, the first time he plays around, she's out the door. James: I wonder if he'd have been like that if he married my mother. Lucy: He'd have been like that if he married the Queen of England.
James: Does it bother you that I'm here? That I'm J.R.'s son? Lucy: Not me. It was only a matter of time before one of his indiscretions finally came home to roost. James: Huh, that's a funny thing to say. Lucy: Not when you know J.R., which I do. You know, you got a very, very famous father. James: Huh, famous for what? Lucy: Famous for what he does in the bedroom and in the boardroom.
James: So, uh, what we're cousins? Lucy: I guess so. Cousins. James Richard. J.R. Ha! I wonder, is the world really ready for another J.R.?
J.R.: Marilee, if you don't hurry somebody else is gonna get to your street corner. Marilee: I was just leaving. Your son. A-ha, funny, at first I thought he might be your wife's older brother. (Marilee leaves) James: (sighs) She's quite a character. J.R.: Yeah, Dallas' answer to Vampira.
