The cliffhanger is a very creative one, involving not the "Whodunit", but the identity of the victim in the Southfork pool. J.R. threatens three brunettes: Sue Ellen, Pam, and Kristin. On top of this, he fires his brunette secretary, Louella. Who is the brunette in the pool? This actually turned out to be Dallas's highest rated season ending episode ever. Plenty of anger, viciousness, and intrigue would carry fans through the summer of 1981. One downside was J.R.'s anticlimactic forgiving of the double-crossing Leslie Stewart. The spectacular crash expected between the two never happened and she never ended up in the pool--or anywhere else. She was never mentioned again.moreless

    • Pam: He's her child, J.R. He belongs with her. J.R.: Stay out of my affairs, Pamela. Pam: Give her her child, she loves him. J.R.: She doesn't know the first thing about love. Pam: She should have him just for putting up with you all these years. He's the only decent thing that's ever happened to her. J.R.: No wonder you care so much for Sue Ellen, she's just like your mother. Another drunken slut who ran away. Pam: You slime. You make me sick. J.R.: Keep out of my way Pamela or I'll destroy you. I'll destroy anybody who tries to take my boy away from me.
