In this episode J.R.'s doctor advises him to give up the serious drinking. About a year after this episode aired Larry Hagman was diagnosed with advanced cirrhosis of the liver. J.R.'s doctor tells J.R. "thank God you don't smoke". Larry Hagman was a public anti-smoking advocate.
