Sly: Actually, I thought for a long time that I wanted to be a doctor... until I discovered that I couldn't stand the sight of blood. James: Well, I bet you saw a lot of it working at Ewing Oil.
J.R.: You know, old H.L. Hunt claimed that he had these special genes. "Genius genes" is what he called 'em. Now, I don't know if he was right or wrong, but I sure go along with his theory. Dr. Wexler: You think you have such genes? J.R.: I think it runs in my family, yeah. Dr. Wexler: Starting with your father? J.R.: Well, he produced me.
Dr. Wexler: Shall we go back to why your wife had you committed? J.R.: Because she was drivin' me crazy—No pun intended.
Anita: (after seeing J.R. talk to Jessica) Hmm, a little quirky, aren't you? J.R.: What? Anita: You like old broads? That's okay. I can put on a grey wig.
Dr. Wexler: J.R., that's John... Ross? That correct? J.R.: John Ross Ewing. Same as my daddy, same as my son. You act like you've never heard of me. Dr. Wexler: Well, I hadn't. And whoever you thought you were on the outside doesn't matter in here.
The episode title refers to this being the 333rd episode of Dallas.
Barbara Bel Geddes (Miss Ellie), Lesley-Anne Down (Stephanie), Charlene Tilton (Lucy), Kimberly Foster (Michelle), Howard Keel (Clayton), and Sheree J. Wilson (April) do not appear in this episode.
Inside the sanitarium, J.R. asks the doctor, "What is this: Abandon all hope ye who enter here." This is a reference to Dante's Divine Comedy, the passage of which is the supposed inscription to Hell.
