  • What an incredible ending! But where's William Hurt?

    8.8
First off, I have to say that this was a superb episode of Damages. It didn't over-do the jumping back and forth between times.. in fact, there wasn't a single flashforward or back or sideways or anything (okay, maybe I'm watching too much Lost). Either way, there was great build-up throughout, and every character had great scenes.

It seems that in any show with a giant, eclectic cast like Damages, they have to balance how often each character is in the show. We had a few episodes where Ted Danson was completely gone, while we went awhile without seeing Marcia Gay Harden as well (not as much of a loss). But now, it seems to be William Hurt's turn, which is very disappointing, considering he's been the strongest character this season.

However, you have to take the good with the bad. This gave Uncle Pete a chance to move forward, and it's a shame that we only got to learn a little bit about his background before they killed him off. Well, he could be alive I suppose, but I sort of doubt it. I hope he isn't, only so the impact of the episode will resonate through the rest of the season.

However, now the FBI plot seems to be kicking into full gear, along with the UNR case and Frobisher's involvement. However, with the addition of this coked-out stock trader that Walter Kendrick is getting involved with, it almost feels as if there's too much going on. For a show like Damages, this means that there has to be a LOT going on, because usually it handles all of the plots pretty well. However, I'm getting pretty confused at this point how everything is connected to each other.

It's nice to see Frobisher back, and I'm really starting to like the Wes character. He's mysterious, and I want to see him appear in more scenes!moreless
  • What a shocker, I knew it could only end one way, but it was heartbreaking none the less. Review of the latest episode of Damages after the jump, if you need me I'll be at the bar flirting with Timothy Olyphant.moreless

Plot Synopsis (S02E07) – As new tension develops between Ellen and Patty over how to proceed in the case against Ultima National Resources, Ellen provides the FBI with a new lead to bring Patty down. It's interesting because Patty does seem to be delivering her promise and gathering evidence against Frobisher from the inside. It was a real shocker to see Uncle Pete go out the way he did, but I was convinced that he would end his life before he gave up Patty, so once he started talking about strawberries and trunks full of evidence, I could see the writing on the wall. It's a shame, Patty's going to be irate I'm sure. It adds another dimension to this season, and it'll be interesting to see how Patty deals with his death and the FBI's involvement in it.

More Thoughts on 'New York Sucks': - Okay so it looks like I was way off base with my thoughts that the FBI guys aren't really FBI guys, but is it possible that something still a bit off with them?

    - These FBI guys are pretty slow on the uptake though, a man so loyal as Uncle Pete wouldn't give up Patty, and they might have known that if they paid any attention.

    - Frobisher's speech that he prepared for Patty was just brilliant, and I love seeing Danson and Close play off each other again. Things are as they should be again.

    - The Trader – coke guy is just gross

    Bottom Line: Very Enjoyable episode!

Next week: Frobisher's past just won't leave him alone!

  • The FBI targets Uncle Pete.

    8.5
We all knew that Patty was not going to get taken down this early in the Season, but the show did perfectly build to that suspenseful moment and leave our jaws on the floor with a shocking ending. I did not expect Pete to pass away after having such an integral role in the attack of Ellen, but that just goes to show you that you need to expect the unexpected with Damages.

The UNR case is getting interesting, and although I am not crazy about this new drug-obsessed stock trading character, it does add a fresh spin on things. Arthur Frobisher was good here and I think we're all waiting for the episode where he regresses back to his evil roots.

After a few average offerings this got Season 2 of Damages right back on track.moreless
