Damages

Damages is very, very sneaky. Just when I thought this would be an episode with nothing much going on, the final act just completely blows me away. Between Pete's death, the return of Ellen's attempted killer, the three months later tag near the end of the episode.. and finally seeing who Patty was talking to in that hotel room. There was just so much going on near the end, which made up for a lack of forward momentum near the beginning.



It's a shame we really never got to learn any more about Pete. For a character who had so much influence with Patty, we only got some vague hints at the kind of things he was into, and the kind of character he could've been with more air-time. Quote of the night has to go to him (It has to do with a bedpan.. watch it and see where it comes up.)





I'm glad that the writers decided to take a little break with the frequent jumps back and forth, and looking back on the last couple episodes, maybe a break from Walter Purcell was a good thing. It gave the show a chance to breathe and focus on its main characters. The Purcell plot is certainly going to be intriguing, but there's plenty of time for that yet. Plus, we already know that William Hurt is superb in this role.. We've gotten plenty of great episodes with him, but now, I'm ready for his return. Let's hope the momentum can continue and that the final few episodes will have a great payoff.

This season Damages only knows one speed: about 95 miles per hour. This show is as intense as anything on TV, but just may be the best written program of the year. There truly is no excuse why the entire world is not watching this show.



When David showed up I cringed, thinking this was going to be Denny Duquette round two, but luckily Damages learned from Grey's Anatomy's mistake and kept his appearance brief. But the scenes with Patty truly were epic. From her crying at the end (I still think there's a swerve as there is no way she gets shot) to her discussions with Pete she continues to be one of the most powerful characters on television, ushering in a strong sense of feminism that is absent on shows even with mostly ladies on the cast.



Ellen also was not the robot seeking revenge she had been at times this year, and was more believable as a broader range of emotions was showcased.



Just a good episode all around that may have been even better than last night's classic Lost.

Plot Synopsis (S02E08)- As she copes with mounting pressure, Patty begins to unravel Walter Kendrick's energy scheme. Meanwhile, Arthur Frobisher's past will come back to haunt him. While Uncle Pete gets offed by the guy who was hired to kill Ellen. Frobisher is blackmailed by the Creepy Cop and turns Frobisher from the new age-y peace loving hippie was becoming back to the ruthless and cowardly businessman he always was. He agrees to back out of the lawsuit against UNR, but no matter because Patty has many a board member jumping on that band wagon thanks to Frobisher's initial move.

A tense episode that showed us Patty's relationship with Uncle Pete leads to the big reveal at the end that it's Patty at the end of Ellen's gun in the future!!

More Thoughts on 'They Had To Tweeze That Out Of My Kidney': - So very happy it's Patty at the end of the gun! Just the way it should have been! I just didn't know if the writers were too cowardly to go there.

- Loved that she wasn't behind Uncle Pete's death – quick fake out at the end.

- Tom rocked with that hooker! Now we know why he works for Patty!

- Stefania finding the evidence at the end makes Uncle Pete's death all the more wasteful

- Happy that Katie wasn't infesting my screen! - Patty's hubby is doing shady things, investing in UNR is going to come back to bite everyone in the ass I'm sure



Bottom Line: Great episode, riveting and well done, exactly why this show is great.

Next week: Hell hath no fury like a grieving Patty!
