  • Not a great episode.

The twists on this show are starting to get a little bit ridiculous. I cannot be the only one who thought there was no need to have the FBI working with UNR's rep to take down Patty Hewes. This was shocking, which I guess is the reaction they were going for, but just unnecessary. Again, I hate to sound tetchy, but sometimes being simpler would benefit this show and allow the audience to grow as the casual viewer could actually be able to follow the plot.

As I predicted also Patty Hewes does not get shot in the hotel room. I'm still going with Wes!moreless

  • We learn more about the 'bad' Fed and what happened in the hotel room...

    "Great"
While this episode wouldn't rate as my favourite of the season it still has plenty of 'wow' moments. First we have Ellen who is clearly starting to fall apart. Her Mom has come to see her and yet Ellen just snaps at her. It is obvious that she is not dealing with all her angsty issues about David, the Feds and Patty. Patty, being her usual caustic self, isn't interested and only wants to know about her son's new girlfriend. Part of me hoped that he would say it was Ellen and that he had been having delusional fantasies about her but that would be a step too far for Damages. So despite the initial suggestion of the girl with the piercings and mad hair (which would have been too predictable) Michael's girlfriend turns out to be the lady who owns the gallery and is almost old enough to be his mom. Of course Patty fake smiles through dinner while seething inside and makes it clear later to Jill that she'll have her 'guts for garters' if anything happens to her ickle boy. Can't wait to see her reaction when she finds out next week (I'm guessing from the title) about Phil's little trips to London.

Ellen had pushed away Wes after their night of passion. However after a drunken night out with Katie where she propostions some randomer in a bar, she finds herself in Wes' bed confessing all her dark little secrets about being a snitch for the Feds and Patty trying to kill her. Dare I suggest that maybe Wes actually has real non-killer feelings for her?? He really does seem to want to find reasons to keep her alive and I'm sure its not all just about the bedroom antics...

And then we have the cute Fed who finds out that the moany Fed wasn't actually moaning on at 'Pam' at all but was 'on the take' from someone who wanted to make sure Patty went down. Poor cute Fed never had a chance as some goons kill him with a staged overdose. Crap way to die, could they not have protected his work reputation and had a suicide-y death? Guess goons don't care about reputations. And it turns out moany Fed's interested party is none other than the same dude who appears everywhere, Dave (black guy with a penchant for brown suits). Last but not least we go back to the hotel room where it looks like Patty has had her day...or has she? I'm going to go with "thefanof" and say that I think that is someone else's blood on her hands (nice little poetic/artistic licence there) and I'm going to guess Wes or maybe Frobisher??moreless

  • So Ellen DID shoot Patty?!

    9.1
    "Superb"
The only problem with Ellen shooting Patty, and it certainly looks like she has by the end of this episode, is that I know she can't possibly be killed off since the show has been renewed for two more seasons (and damn right too).

I wasn't sure about using the flash forward/flashback formula again in this season at first but now I'm glad they did and it makes perfect sense; little bits of information of leaked to viewer and the picture begins to unfold.

What I like most is that this season ties in perfectly with the first season. It didn't seem that way at first what with a different case and the conlusion of the first season but this is a perfect continuation of that.

Sometimes I hate Patty, she did try to kill Ellen after all, but other times I'm rooting for her like when she faced off with her sons new older girlfriend Jill.

I still don't really understand the true involvement of this Dave character, first he is helping out the president of UNR and Finn Gerrity and then he is trying to recruit Patty's husband and then it turns out he is trying to bring Patty down by bribeing the FBI agent that is working with Ellen? Not only that but he had the other agent killed.

And then theres Wes, I didn't like Wes from the start he was all up in Ellen business and it turns out he is a very bad guy indeed linked to Davids murder. And now Ellen thinks she can trust him and she told him all about Frobisher and Patty and the FBI and everything! Agh! I hope HE bloody gets shot!moreless
