When you look back on this episode, what will you really be able to say happened besides a few interesting questions about the FBI's motives in investigating Patty Hewes? The episode wasn't boring, don't get me wrong.. I don't think Damages knows how to do boring.. however, it certainly didn't have anything to progress the story forward. They hinted at a lot of stuff, but there was just a lot of the same rehashing of old ideas.. the latitude/longitude coordinates that don't make much sense right now, Wes being sneaky and working with the cop with the glasses and beard (can't remember his name!), Patty being furious at everyone, Ellen still working with the FBI.. nothing happened!

There was also an excess of political talk, something that doesn't necessarily bother me that much.. but there was just too much casual mentions of "capitalist markets" and "private sectors" and stock market stuff.. I'm sure it's compelling to some people, but it's just not my cup of tea.

As I said, the FBI plot is the most interesting thing right now. With William Hurt completely missing for the last few weeks, it seems as if a dozen other plots are taking his place, which is a shame, because not all of them are interesting. I really hope this whole Cadillac/Finn Garrety thing has some payoff, because it's a lot of time they're spending on focusing on him punching coordinates into a truck.

The show is still just as compelling as ever.. This episode just didn't carry the same punch as the last couple of weeks, with Uncle Pete's death and whatnot.
  • Patty goes after the FBI with a vengeance, while Tom gets closer to UNR's dirty dealings. Phil gets an intriguing offer from his UNR friend and Creepy Cop asks Wes to finish his mission. If you need me I'll be singing 'Danny Boy' by the piano…

Plot Synopsis (S02E09) - As Patty goes on the offensive against the FBI, Ellen discovers troubling news about the investigation – there is no file on Patty or herself at the FBI. Even the fed guys didn't know there wasn't an official file being kept on Patty! Clearly a higher up is the one honing in on Patty, and she knows it! Which leads to her declaration of war against the entire FBI!

Meanwhile, Patty's husband gets an intriguing offer from the UNR guy to get into politics (of course he' self-serving so he wants to be able to control whoever is in office – who better than naïve Phil).

Wes and Ellen finally do the dirty…too bad Creepy Cop turns around tells Wes to end Ellen soon after! Poor Wes, what is a hired gun to do?

More Thoughts on 'You got your prom date pregnant': - The future flash to Tom being ousted from the firm and trying to warn her was interesting, I wonder what got him to that point?

    - Katie's back, which only leads to boredom every time she's on my screen.

    - Shirtless Wes! - The UNR stuff is by far the weakest, especially with the finance guy…zzzz

    - Where is Marcia Gay Harden?

    - James Naughton is great! I wish the would keep around! I think he would've made a better Kendrick.

Bottom Line: A very slow moving episode, especially after last week's brilliant episode, felt more like a setup.

Next week: Cracks are showing, shocking turns and new directions!

  • Another great episode.

If there is a more consistent show on TV right now than Damages I have yet to watch it. Week after week the FX original series provides heart-pumping excitement and mystery. While the complex plotlines and characters are often difficult to follow you always get the notion that the writers know exactly what they are doing, which is not the case with Lost.

This episode dug more into the personality of Wes Krulik as we know now he has some sort of debt that will be payed off by taking out Ellen, who he happened to have a furious make-out session with. Thank God this isn't Grey's Anatomy or we'd be hearing about it all week, but for Damages it's just another day at the office.

I still think he is the one to die and not Patty, but we shall wait and see.
