  • Mina Tepes, vampire and apprentice cook. Fail immiment.

I'm really getting a Bakemonogatari-esque experience from this anime. For example, the quick cuts of angles with only slight animation involved, to the facial expression and object close-ups, to the use of simple shadows... even tilted faces. Of course, I don't see or hear the level of quality Bakemonogatari offered, their strange scene replacements aside.

It's pretty interesting seeing a very close tie between the politics and action to the school life Mina and Akira have together. I like the parallel development with both conflict and resolution. Also, scenes with foreshadowing keep me very interested and not stuck thinking about the staff putting it there for the sake for... well, having an anime.

Animation was a little mixed. The action/battle scenes were lovely, with mandatory shadowing for the background of vampire introductions. The politics invoke a cold, static atmosphere, and the school-life hint of slice-of-life.

Mina Tepes's character both in design and performance is impressive. Her transformation into a political monster who is also a creepy vampire, complete with formal speech... very cool.

    - Cooking scene was funny.

    - Candy-throwing girl's entrance. Her cheerful behavior is pretty charming.

    - The naked scene at the end was a little random and... awkward. If that's what they were going for, then it worked. Awkward...

Creepy and awkward episode calls for a 7.0, + 0.5 for cliffhanger devices. 7.5 total.moreless
