  • Very impressive...

    "Perfect"
I was very impressed with this episode. All of the dances were entertaining and enjoyable, and the music was at least tolerable this time (lol). My favorite dances were by Apollo and Julianne and Laila and Maksim. Laila and Maksim were dancing as if they really were in love. I loved their outfits and the music they chose. Apollo and Julianne's dance was perfect! I'm really glad they got the first perfect 30. I was beginning to think it was impossible to get that score. The dance they performed was awesome. I like the song they danced to - it was from Madagascar. I didn't care for Julianne's hair though. It looked stupid. The only thing I didn't like about this episode was Clyde's performance. He doesn't even look like he's trying! I wish he would get voted off soon - he doesn't deserve to stay.moreless
  • Now we're really getting somewhere. After Len's scolding last week and a week to shape up, we can see which contestants have the attitude, aptitude and physical resources to make me want to watch this show.moreless

    "Superb"
I really don't care that Clyde went to China. Given his performances to date, all of them, I don't see anything different. Would three or four days have improved his performance? Nope. He just doesn't get it.

I think Billy Ray is sick of this and would be glad to get off. He was angry last night and refused to comment because he probably would have said something no one wanted to hear. Just as well. He's who he is, but he's just not cut out for this show.

Of course, Apolo and Julianne were spectacular. Energy to burn, all the stylistic elements, surprise choreographic moments throughout (the crowd literally gasped at that leg arabesque turn) and just a wonderful feeling of joyful exuberance and rampant, fun sexuality.

I was surprised by Heather Mills. I wonder if her strategy is planned, because she is so much better each episode that it looks like she's been holding back a bit. Certainly her performance was impressive and daring. Her upper body work was superb, and her footwork kept pace despite her disability. I wouldn't have taken off a point for the fall, since that was really in the closing pose, not during the dance. But I'm not a judge.

Leila showed some smouldering sensuality and the bit with her fianc was cute. I agree with Len, though, that we still haven't seen her *strength*. I was also disappointed with Ian, and Joey was not as good as he should have been. They both have loads of potential, and Apolo will be giving them a run for their money.

As for John, I don't buy the 'actor' bit as a substitute for skilled dancing. I didn't think his paso doble showed much performance flair, and it sure didn't impress me in the choreography department.

Leaving tonight? Probably Clyde; next week, Billy Ray; then either Heather or John. But who knows what surprises may lurk!moreless
  • The Wheat from the Chaff

    10
    "Perfect"
I've said it before and I'll say it again - of the "reality" based shows, this show is by far the most entertaining of them all. Bruno Tognioli alone is worth the price of admission.

The dances are getting tougher, and we're really separating the wheat from the chaff now folks. Where do I begin?

OK...how about from the ground up?

Billy Ray - I had high hopes for him after his performance last week, but after his performance last night, I think the only think keeping him from being voted out is Clyde.

Poor Clyde. His biggest (no pun intended) asset in basketball will lead to his demise in dancing. Besides the fact that he looks so uncomfortable being so much taller, his personality doesn't seem to lend itself to busting out and busting a move. He was reserved even as a bastketball player.

John Ratzenberger - the talent coordinators are to be commended for again providing us with a sophisticated gentleman whose showmanship is a joy to watch in spite of the limited dancing range.

Heather Mills - I must admit that I have warmed up to her, though I was quite reluctant in the beginning. She is truly an example for anyone with a disability, and if it were not for the limited range of motion of her prosthetic leg, I am certain she'd be more of a contender.

Layla Ali - definitely a joy to watch. She is ALL woman and makes no apologies for it. As Len said, he gest disappointed when she doesn't live up to the potential that he knows she has, so that being said, I didn't hink she was deserving of a 10, let alone from two judges!

Ian Zehring - talk about potential! Especially with a partner like Cheryl Burke. She seems to be the consummate instructor. I think Carrie Ann was right. In last night's performance it was as though he was thinking too much. When DWTS first started this season, I pegged Ian to be in the top three with Joey Fatone and Layla Ali, but if he doesn't loosen up, Apolo Ohno is gonna take one of those three spots, especially after last night's perfect scores from all three judges!

Apolo Ohno - I owe him and especially his partner an apology as I judged them too quickly after one show. At that time, I felt as though his partner did not have the experience compared to the other professionals, but I'm eating toe jam here, because she is a great instructor and an EXCELLENT dancer, AND she's only 18!!! They're definitely top three contenders.

Joey Fatone - what can I say about Joey that we don't all already know? He's a really good dancer, and with Kym Johnson as his partner, they could win this whole thing if it weren't for the couple listed directly above!

Stay tuned to tonight's results show...maybe we'll get to see Apolo and Julianne's dance again.moreless
  • Judges scores don't add up ....

    7.1
    "Good"
The judges stated that Heather would be graded as any other celebrity dancer. When a dancer had a mis-step, he was taken to task. When Heather stumbled around last night and then fell, she wasn't penalized. She should be judged just like the others and not be given special treatment.

On a positive note, Apolo, Laila, and Joey just blew the competition out of the water. They are why I'm watching -- they just get better every week and are fun! John obviously enjoyed his dance -- but Clyde and Billy Ray stomp around like they're lost. Someone needs to put them out of their misery, FAST.moreless
  • Enjoyed the routines.

    "Great"
Joey & Kym I thought were great. I think because they have done so well in the past the judges' expectations are really high every week. But as they have shown they are more than capable of bringing it every week and if they want to win that's what they need to do. They can't play it safe. Laila & Maks I LOVED their routine. Laila's personality just shone through. You saw her spunk and her attitude along with her desire. I loved the behind the scene with Laila's fianc. I thought it was perfect.

Ian & Cheryl I really enjoy watching them but I am really agreeing with Carrie. I truly think that if Ian would just stop thinking so much he would blow everyone away. When you watch him dance you can literally tell when he starts thinking. He stiffens up and his facial expressions change. When he's relaxed and has a good time, he's loose, at ease and a smile that lights up the room

Apolo & Julianne All I can say is OMG. They were amazing. Julianne is just the spunky thing and Apolo is just so competitive. They have always been fun to watch but this week they lit up the room and the stage.

John & Edyta I enjoyed them. John always seems to enjoy himself regardless of what anyone thinks.

Billy Ray & Karina OMG I don't think I've ever see Billy Ray look as uncomfortable as he did tonight. He had his moments but I just had a right hard time just watching him tonight.

Heather & Jonathan The routine was okay. To me I just thought it was off tempo and out of rhythm. It might have been the song selection but it just to me they were in slow motion.

Clyde & Elena OMG I am hoping that we have finally seen the end of Clyde. I think he needs to stick to the basketball court.moreless

    • (Judges commenting on Billy Ray and Karina's Rumba) Bruno Tonioli: Billy Ray, I know she's very hot, but sometimes she's turned into a pillar of salt - you were holding her like one! It was truly a fried Rumba. It didn't happen for me tonight. Carrie Ann Inaba: I like to point out some positives. Number one, you arms - they look very nice tonight. Number two, on a serious note, I really do appreciate that you didn't try to heel lead except for once. And that is a huge thing on you, Karina, so good job with that. I thought you did an amazing effort, your focus is really good. But this one just didn't make it. Len Goodman: Well, the dance is supposed to be a love story. It's supposed to be romantic, but this one was like a couple having a bit of hanky panky in the back of a Chevy. Billy Ray Cyrus: I've had some of my most romantic nights in the back of a Chevy! Tom Bergeron: And clearly, so has Len!

    • Karina Smirnoff: I think Billy Ray is a little bit reluctant in showing his romantic side, but this is the dance of love and there's no way around it. Billy Ray Cyrus: I think the Rumba is a sensual dance, but I think it's a dance that you'd want to do in the dark. If they shut off all the lights and no one could see me, this could be my best dance yet!

    • (Judges praise Apolo and Julianne's Samba) Len Goodman: Occasionally, the music, the choreography and the performance all come together and you get a great, great show! Bruno Tonioli: You two were possessed tonight! Like two bewitching devils! And I think the nation has been stunned. Carrie Ann Inaba: Perfection! That's it! Perfection!

    • Julianne Hough: We better get freakin' tens this week. Cause I'm sick of being in second or third. Apolo Anton Ohno: Julianne absolutely loves the Samba, because she's going to be that much harder on me. Julianne Hough: The competition is getting harder and harder. The only way is to keep Apolo really focused. Come on! Like a tiger! Apolo Anton Ohno: Up until we've been known as the Mr. and Mrs. Cute Couple - well, no longer! After this, we'll be known as Mr. and Mrs. Hot Sexy Samba.

    • Laila Ali: I think the judges were disappointed. I was disappointed in myself as well. I'm used to being on top, actually, I'm used to being number one. What I like about the Rumba is that there's lots of opportunities to make the dance my own. Because the Rumba is such an erotic dance, I figured I'd have my fiance Curtis come by the studio so there's no surprises. Maksim Chmerkovskiy: Rumba is all about passion and sexiness and it's very, um, close. It's all business. (Curtis proceeds to separate them at every place possible) Curtis Conway: See, now that's a ten!

    • Heather Mills: I love the latin dances because they are just so free and flowy and more rrrrr! Jonathan Roberts: OK, then face me and put your hand on my chest. Heather Mills: Jonathan is the only dancer with a hairy chest. And we have other people to compete against in the Samba. You know how Max has always got his chest out, I think we should get your chest out. Jonathan Roberts: When they first put the wax on my chest, I thought - ooh, it's warm, that's not so bad. (after the waxing begins) I just kept thinking, when is this pain going to end? Heather Mills: Oh, come on, quit the whining! (as the strips get pulled off) That's for the Jive! That one's for the Foxtrot!

    • (Judges comments on Clyde and Elena's Rumba) Bruno Tonioli: Oh my God. Clyde, I know you're a gentleman, right? But this was so polite, sunny - it was like a Rumba under an anesthetic. And about your footwork, I'm sure Len will have plenty to say. Not your best to say the least. Carrie Ann Inaba: Sorry, I'm going to be very frank. You're the worst dancer in the competition. Tonight was really bad and I think people would love to go out dancing with you, but there wasn't anything in that routine. And you are not supposed to lift, so you broke a rule too. Len Goodman: I thought it was better than those two thought it was! I know you've had a tough week and you've been to China and everything. But your footwork -- (interruption by other judges, clomping on the table) Get over, will you! I said, I know your footwork wasn't correct. But I think you came out and really tried to show us a proper Rumba. (backstage with Samantha Harris) Clyde Drexler: Obviously, they did not think it was our best dance. And he's right! Elena Grinenko: It was not supposed to be a lift, it was supposed to be a pose, but due to the length of his legs - I'm sorry!

    • (Bruno commenting on Ian's dance moves) Bruno Tonioli: I think that this week, you went for the hip action. Like a power tool sometimes! You were going at it like a madman!

    • (after questioning Cheryl's direction for his Samba) Ian Ziering: Are we okay? Cheryl Burke: Of course we're okay. We're a team, we're going to get through this. Ian Ziering: Hug it out!
