  • First there are four, now there are three

First there were four couples and now there are three couples remaining as Ian & Cheryl got the boot last night. But they were a delight to be around with. But still, you got to give the judges credit on being more encouraging and helpful than the American Idol judges. Apollo is great and Joey is funny.
  • First there were 4 and now there are 3!

It was Ian's turn to go: even though he was at his best in performance last night he could not compete with the other magnificent trio. Now what! It all depends on who works the hardest, has the best dance instructor and who wants it the most. I guess it would also depend on the one who has the most fan base, but at this point I really hope the winner who takes it is because they some how pull something out of the hat that makes them the best of the best. This is truly the best year ever of all the seasons because here we have witnessed much more talent. I cannot wait till next week.moreless
  • The final four are the best of the competition.

Ok - as much as I agree that it was Ian's time to leave I am so glad he left on such a positive note. His scores last night show exactly how hard he's worked and how far he's come in this competition. The judges said it best last night this was the most exciting semi's in the history of the show and I agree. I feel that Joey and Kym, Apolo and Julianne along with Maks & Laila are the most exciting dancers in the history of the show. With these couples in the finals, I can't even begin to guess who's taking the trophy home but I can't wait to find out.moreless

    • (Ian and Cheryl's farewell video)
Ian Ziering: When I walked in the door and I saw Cheryl, I was just blown away.
Cheryl Burke: When I first met Ian, I was surprised by his determination. He wanted to win this competition from day one.
Ian Ziering: I'm gonna explode! I'm putting a lot of effort in this.
Cheryl Burke: It's been a long journey for Ian and I. We've taken criticism from the judges, we've had our highs and lows. Now it's finally coming together and I don't want it to end.
Ian Ziering: The most exciting part of this for me was being able to dance in front of my dad. I think I impressed him a little bit, I think he's proud of his son. Cheryl's been great. She's beautiful, she's charming, she's an amazing dancer, she's a winner - that's the bottom line.
Cheryl Burke: I really do feel lucky. Ian is a great partner and I know he'll be a friend for life.
Ian Ziering: I've had an incredible time on this show. You know what? I've accomplished my goal. I've learned how to dance.

    • (Some comments from the couples on their competition)
Ian Ziering: From the beginning, I've always concentrated on winning this. Being so close to the finals, I almost feel like I can taste it.
Apolo Anton Ohno: You're getting down to the best of the best dancers.
Laila Ali: Everyone who's left in this competition is a serious competitor because they all have the skills that can take them to the end.
Ian Ziering: I've worked really hard and I've put a lot of work into this. I feel like I've earned my position in the finals.
Apolo Anton Ohno: Ian works hard. And you can see it every single time he steps onto that floor. You can see that he really wants to do well.
Joey Fatone: When he does his performances, he means business. And that's obviously a great quality. You see him doing that, he's committed.
Laila Ali: Ian has done a great job picking up the dances, picking up the choreography, he works hard, like a dog. The best is still to come.
Joey Fatone: Kym and I have been working our butts off to get this far.
Laila Ali: I definitely can't count out Joey and Kym til they're out of this competition because Joey is a performer. He's sharp on his feet and he knows how to pull out all the stops.
Ian Ziering: Oh, please, Joey brings out an incredible amount of showmanship. He puts on a great performance.
Apolo Anton Ohno: When he's out there, you can see everything he's got. He goes out there and he's able to turn it on.
Laila Ali: I think I deserve to be in the semi finals because I've been working very hard.
Apolo Anton Ohno: One thing that Laila does is she works it. When she's out there, you can see her absolutely working it. She really works the dance floor, she is giving it her all.
Ian Ziering: If there is one person I'm gonna have to keep my eye on, it would have to be Laila. She brings an elegance to her dances and she moves really well. Plus being the only woman is an advantage.
Apolo Anton Ohno: Bruno said it best, he said I have the highest potential out of all of the dancers.
Ian Ziering: Apolo is very sharp. All of his dances are very strong and crisp.
Joey Fatone: His frames are dead on. He knows what he's doing, he has this great presence.
Laila Ali: I think Apolo is my biggest threat because he's a good dancer. He has that winning spirit. He knows how to do all those dances to get the high scores from the judges.
Apolo Anton Ohno: Winning this competition is what I signed up for. I'm really not scared of anybody.
Joey Fatone: Doesn't everybody want to win when they say you're doing a competition? When it drops down to four, you say, okay I want to be one or two.
Ian Ziering: Bottom line is, they haven't seen my best yet. They have no idea what's coming.
Laila Ali: I think I was the main one in this competition who made it clear that I was here to win. And I'm gonna keep saying that until I have that trophy in my hand.

    • (Some comments from the Judges on the couples left in the competition)
Len Goodman: Physically, the sports people have an advantage over the entertainers. They can see their goal and they can focus.
Carrie Ann Inaba: They have wonderful muscle memory, they know how to do the training.
Bruno Tonioli: They have that reserve of stamina. Determination, that killer instinct.
Len Goodman: One of the secrets of dance is the ability to coordinate the body. Your arms, you legs, you hips, you head. This comes quite naturally to sports people. But as far as the performance is concerned, I think th entertainers have it over the sports people. They know how to come out and give you a show.
Bruno Tonioli: They engage with the audience and they feed from the reaction from them.
Carrie Ann Inaba: Entertainers have a bag of tricks that they can reach into at any moment which the athletes don't have. They can turn it up a notch, a little razzmatazz, they can throw humor, it just adds a little excitement to the performance. There's also the mental side of the competition.
Len Goodman: You're not going to find a lot of negative thoughts with the sports people. Failure doesn't come into their vocabulary.
Carrie Ann Inaba: We don't know if they're afraid, we don't know if they're nervous. They exude a confidance.
Bruno Tonioli: Athletes are used to being coached. So they take criticism in a positive way.
Len Goodman: Because the entertainers are in an environment that they're used to, they come out with a home court advantage.
Carrie Ann Inaba: They're used to the makeup, the costumes, the bright lights. It's like home to them.
Bruno Tonioli: There's a chance the athletes will choke at the last minute because they're not on familiar ground.
Len Goodman: Everyone left in this competition is a competitor. The entertainers want to be liked, they want the judges to like them, they want the audience to like them. Sports people - they just want to win! They don't give a monkey's armpit whether I like them or not.
Carrie Ann Inaba: Entertainers also know how to compete.
Len Goodman: They eventual winner will be able to take all the qualities from the athletic world and the entertaining world and fuse them together. That will be the winner.
