  • Overall, it was an enjoyable night of dancing but the judges were very generous to Steve Wozniak.

It was another opportunity, for the Stars, to be judged, for their performance, before the elimination, on Tues March 17. Again we saw who was working really hard and had ability. Great performances by Gilles Marini & Cheryl Burke, Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani, Shawn Johnson & Mark Ballas, Lil'Kim & Derek Hough. Low scores went to Steve-O & Lacey Schwimmer & Steve Wozniak & Karina Smirnoff.

Steve-O injured himself in the dress rehearsal doing a flip and landing on the microphone pack attached to the back of his pants. Badly bruised his tailbone. Judged on their performance at the dress rehearsal. The judges were very generous to Steve Wozniak as Karina continues to do all the work. I expect the viewers will see he can't dance and he will have the lowest combined score. This season they have introduced a dance off, between the two Stars, with the total lowest combined scores. The judges will score the Stars and the Star with the total combined lowest score will be eliminated. Denise Richards struggles to learn the dance steps but her self-confidence is her worst enemy. It doesn't help that Max Cherkovkiy is frustrated with her and loses patience very fast. He has been spoiled with great partners in the past.

Overall, it was an enjoyable night of dancing.moreless
  • second week shows improvement

after watching this show since s2, it's amazing to see how fast the contestants improve week to week and so early in the competition.

Wow, Melissa Rycroft is excellent. And she had the shortest training time of all. I'm also impressed with Shawn Johnson and Gilles. Last week I was disappointed in Lawrence Taylor's performance, but he has improved since then. I hate to admit it, Lil Kim isn't bad either. Yee-haw! Ty was most improved over last week. I'm so glad. Of course, it would had been awesome to see him and his wife Jewel compete together, but such as life. I agree with judges regarding Julianne and Chuck. Her costume was also very distracting. Was that intentional? Disappointing. Sniff, sniff---I feel so bad for Steve-O and Lacey. She became one of my faves last year. Steve Wozniak, you have to admire his determination. And dancing on a crushed foot? What courage. And he's having fun, isn't that the point of it all. By the way, he's sure to leave early on, I hope, that will take care of Karina, not a fan. Denise, Holly, David and Belinda. Middle of the pack performances and middle of the pack celebs. Sorry. Although Steve or Steve-O should have left, I wasn't surprised one bit to see Belinda go. As the results show started, I thought, I won't be devastated to see her go.moreless
  • Lots of surprises

This was an episode that was painful to watch because we did not know how Steve O was. It was unclear if he was going to be able to continue.

I was ready to see the dancers settle into certain spots. WRONG! I was pleasantly surprised at the improvement in one week of Denise, Ty, Steve W, Lawrence and Belinda

I am never more annoyed when the contestant poses while the pro dances around them. David Alan and Chuck were terrible and I am glad the judges called them on it. Kym and Julianne should know better than that.

I loved the salsas that Belinda with Jonathan and Melissa with Tony did. I am sorry Belinda is gone now.

Denise was as lovely as ever, but the costume did not fit the dance. Karina's was much better in the Grease - Happy Days - American Graffiti genre.

Steve W is a horrible dancer who is having the most fun of anyone. His enthusiasm is infectious.moreless
  • The second week of the competition separates the pack!

This was a very entertaining night! We finally see who is going to be leading the pack, and who will be tripping themselves trying to catch up. Steve O and Lacey deserved much better scores than they received! I still can't believe they only got a 14! Shawn did an excellent job! I knew she would be good, but I didn't think she would be this good! The video of their practices was hilarious! Mark kept shaking his hips trying to get Shawn to do it too, but she was too embarrassed XD It was hilarious XD Melissa and Gilles did a great job too! Once again, they're leading the pack, but others are following close behind!moreless

  • QUOTES (15)

    • (Some of the judge's comments after Gilles Marini & Cheryl Burke's Quickstep)
Bruno Tonioli: French class and American flair.
Len Goodman: This is great ballroom dancing.
Carrie Ann Inaba: You're becoming the fan favorite and making the ladies swoon out there.

    • (Some of the judge's comments after Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani's Salsa)
Bruno Tonioli: Now we are cooking. So much content to satisfy the most demanding appetite.
Len Goodman: I was gyrating in my seat. It was absolutely full on.
Carrie Ann Inaba: Finally a real salsa. That was slamming!

    • (Some of the judge's comments after Lil' Kim & Derek Hough's Quickstep)
Bruno Tonioli: One a vivacious, uplifting performance.
Len Goodman: A lot of quantity, but not a lot of quality. There should be body contact throughout this dance, but there was virtually none. Get refined and precise.
Carrie Ann Inaba: It's all working together, choreography was fantastic.

    • (Some of the judge's comments after Steve Wozniak & Karina Smirnoff's Quickstep)
Bruno Tonioli: Very resilient and very charming. A bit rusty.
Len Goodman: Loved the Buddy Holly music. Great antics, but the dance quality is not there.
Carrie Ann Inaba: If you want to continue, work on your arms and you lose steam halfway through the dance.

    • (Some of the judge's comments after Steve-O & Lacey Schwimmer's Salsa)
Bruno Tonioli: None of it made sense. Where is the salsa?
Len Goodman: No salsa in the performance that I could see.
Carrie Ann Inaba: The stunts weren't necessary, which is ironic since Steve-O was injured.

    • (Some of the judge's comments after Lawrence Taylor & Edyta Sliwinska's Quickstep)
Bruno Tonioli: You took some notes last week and attacked this performance. Way to go!
Len Goodman: Dancing is the same as golf -- practice is required. Well done.
Carrie Ann Inaba: That's the way, uh-huh, I like it.

    • (Some of the judge's comments after Chuck Wicks & Julianne Hough's Salsa)
Bruno Tonioli: A wasted opportunity. Julianne did all the work. We want more dancing.
Len Goodman: You should come out here and sell this dance. You have to come out and perform it.
Carrie Ann Inaba: That wasn't a salsa. Felt more showy.

    • (Some of the judge's comments after Shawn Johnson & Mark Ballas' Salsa)
Bruno Tonioli: One of the cutest little things I've ever seen. Precise and sharp. You've got to work on the naughtiness.
Len Goodman: You seem so sure of what you're doing. Throw caution to the wind a bit more.
Carrie Ann Inaba: I thought it was fantastic. You have the ability to focus.

    • (Some of the judge's comments after Ty Murray & Chelsie Hightower's Quickstep)
Bruno Tonioli: You were in charge. Still made of hardwood at times, but it keeps your posture straight.
Len Goodman: An absolute metamorphisis. Last week a caterpillar, this week a butterfly.
Carrie Ann Inaba: So proud of you. That was excellent! Strength in your upper body.

    • (Some of the judge's comments after Belinda Carlisle & Jonathan Roberts' Salsa)
Bruno Tonioli: Timing and the rhythm must be sharper.
Len Goodman: Hip action was lacking.
Carrie Ann Inaba: I found it a bit lacking in grace. Your legs were apart a lot. The freedom, though, is really nice to see.

    • (Some of the judge's comments after Denise Richards & Maksim Chmerkovskiy's Quickstep)
Bruno Tonioli: Great leg action. I think there's a good dancer in there, starting to come out.
Len Goodman: Quite an improvement. Your feet were together.
Carrie Ann Inaba: Much better, found your elegance and strength.

    • (Some of the judge's comments after David Alan Grier & Kym Johnson's Salsa)
Bruno Tonioli: Work on the head, Work on the timing.
Len Goodman: Far too much of Kym and not enough of you, David. All sizzle and no salsa.
Carrie Ann Inaba: Weren't driven by the musicality. Not quite coming together just yet.

    • (Some of the judge's comments after Holly Madison & Dmitry Chaplin's Quickstep)
Bruno Tonioli: Looked like you were running for a bus. Can't be always one or two beats behind. Get your frame right.
Len Goodman: The upper body, you have to have a lovely upper posture. Your posture is a bit lacking, but good job.
Carrie Ann Inaba: Felt like you were being dragged around the floor. Be an equal partner to Dmitry.

    • Tom Bergeron: In dress rehearsal, daredevil Steve-O was injured. If you know his show, Jackass, you know the things he's done that haven't sent him to the hospital. The Salsa did.

    • Denise Richards: This is not a natural feeling, to be halfway bent backwards. I quite frankly would love to meet the person that invented this dance because I don't think he really liked his partner very much!
