In the spirit of the 60s, it's time for the first group dance. Will it be as disasterous as last season's?
  • I can see why this is the most popular episode!

I was immdiately scared that the 60s group dance would be as horrendous as the previous hip hop one, but thankfully it wasn't! It has now become my fave of every group dance done since the second season! Just the rehearsal itself was hysterical, especially the cardboard cut-out of Shawn! And even though The Clapping Song is beyond nonsensical, I got the DWTS cover on my ipod and can't stop listening to it!

As for the rest of the night, very disappointing, and I mean the judging, not the actual dances each couple did. While Chuck is likeable, his Samba was NOT that great and absolutely NO WAY was he gonna be a contender!

And what was wrong with Lil' Kim's Rumba?! I absolutely loved it, but the judges didn't because she wasn't 'herself'?! Give her a break! I personally thought that it tied with Jennie's in being Derek's best Rumba! Oh, well. The judges will always be judges.moreless
  • The stars dance in the outfits they picked out themselves, then get together with everyone else for the group dance.

    9.5
    "Superb"
This episode was really good! I expected most everyone to look horrible because the stars got to design their outfits for the first time this season. All of the outfits were pretty good, but Edyta's was just jaw dropping! I couldn't believe Lawrence was serious about putting Edyta in more clothes. I like the idea, but the dress thing she was in was just hideous! XD We were all wondering what was under it, and would have never guessed it would be such a beautiful gown. I liked it most of all. The group dance wasn't disastrous like last season's, and it was a lot of fun. The only thing missing was more lifts. I think there should have been more of those.moreless
  • Stars were involved, in the design of the costumes, for the Professional Dancers. The Group dance was fun to watch.

Seven stars remain. Stars were involved, in the design of the costumes, for the Professional Dancers. Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani, dancing the Argentine Tango, scored a 29, and earned number 1 spot for the night. I scored them the same as the judges. Melissa worked through injured ribs. Earning number 2 spot, with a score of 28, was Shawn Johnson & Mark Ballas, dancing the Cha-cha. I scored them a 29. Shawn did a great job given the time restraints she was under. She did a lot of travelling, receiving awards. Earning number 3 spot, with a score of 27, was Gilles Marini & Cheryl Burke, dancing the Viennese Waltz. I scored them a perfect 30. Looked effortless to me. Tied for 3 spot, with a score of 27, was Chuck Wicks & Julianne Hough, dancing the Samba. I scored it a 29 and thought it was Chuck's best dance so far this season. 4th spot, with a score of 26, was Lil'Kim & Derek Hough, dancing the Rumba. I scored it a 23. 5th spot, with a score of 24, was Ty Murray & Chelsie Hightower, dancing the Waltz. I scored them a 27. I thought it was Ty's best dance of the season. 6th spot, with a score of 21, was Lawrence Taylor & Edyta Sliwinska, dancing the Waltz. I scored them 22. The group dance was a 60's theme. They looked liked they were having fun. Lawrence not interested during practise but came through for the live performance. Why he is on the show, when he would rather play golf, I don't know? I see Lawrence being eliminated Tues April 21.moreless
  • Let's jump back four decades for a group dance!

This week, the couples chose one dance out of the six that they did not do previously. For the first time this season, there would be a second dance. This season, the group dance was a throw back to the 60's.

I have a complaint tonight about more than half of the dancers. The pros did way too much spinning by themselves. If there is to be a spin, both dancers need to do it or the pro needs to do a few turns then move on. Otherwise, they look like a top that has been let loose while their partner stands and watches.

Melissa and Tony began the evening with an Argentine Tango. It was so hot, my TV almost caught on fire. The steps, the makeup, the costumes, the posturing were almost perfect. Yes, they scored the highest score of the night.

Lawrence and Edyta did a Waltz. Poor Lawrence had a misstep and Edyta's veiling ended up over her head. Although they got a decent score for the mistakes they made, they still ended up at the bottom of the leader board.

Lil Kim and Derek did a Rumba. Derek toned down Kim's sexiness, much to the displeasure of the judges. Even though there was only one point between most of the top five dancers, this put Lil Kim and Derek in fifth place out of seven. Ouch!

Chuck and Julianne did a hot Samba. I felt Chuck did not move his hips enough but the judges loved it and put them tied for third place. This was their best score and place ever, if I am not mistaken. Ty and Chelsea did a Waltz. I think they did a decent job and that this was almost their best score. However, they remain second from the bottom, three points ahead of Lawrence and Edyta.

Shawn and Mark did the Cha Cha. They moved great with a lot of energy. Shawn was out of town and missed some practice this week. Still, they are squarely in second place, one point behind the leaders.

Gilles and Cheryl finished the night with a Viennese Waltz. It was lovely and flowing. They tied with Ty and Chelsie for third place.

The group dance was well done. It was fun and entertaining. I bet we will see it again as an encore tomorrow night on the results show.moreless

    • (about Ty Murray) Jewel: He's pretty romantic. Chelsie Hightower: Is he? Jewel: One time he picked me a bouquet of flowers. You know, we were riding horses and he picked all these wildflowers, he goes "here, hold this."

    • (after Gilles and Cheryl's Viennese Waltz) Len Goodman: It had more rise and fall than a bride's nightie.

    • Lawrence Taylor: This was supposed to be Dancing with the Stars. But right now it feels like Dancing with the Clowns.
