  • Semi-finals week with each Star to perform a Ballroom & Latin Dance, they have not done before.

    Opening the Semi-final show was a very entertaining, quick & lively group dance, performed by three couples, of the Dancing with the Stars Professionals. It was a great way to start the night. We heard from each of the Stars and their partners what they felt was their breakthrough Ballroom and Latin dances. It gave us insight into the process they went through, to get to the semi-finals. Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani, performing the Quick Step, scored a 28. Len loved it and scored it a 10. Carrie Ann & Bruno both agreed, it was a good dance, but didn't see Melissa having fun with it. Each scored it a 9. I scored it a 29. Gilles Marini & Cheryl Burke, performing the Viennese Waltz, scored a perfect 30. Len said: "I'm giving you a sitting down standing ovation". Nothing else needed to be said. They deserved the 30. Shawn Johnson & Mark Ballas, performing the Argentine Tango, scored a perfect 30. It had passion and intensity. Len said: "it showed maturity & was her best performance of the competition". Carrie Ann loved the lifts and said: " Shawn you delivered on the emotional content". Bruno, always off on a tangent, I was not sure, if his comments were appropriate for her age. Ty Murray & Chelsie Hightower, performing the Viennese Waltz, scored a 25. I would have scored them a 27. Len gave them a 9 and said: " It was fabulous and well done". Carrie Ann scored it an 8 and said: " It was not his best dance". Bruno scored it an 8 and said: "Ty looked like he was chasing flies". Before the next round of dances, by the Stars, we heard from each Star about their hometown. We heard from family & friends about their growing up. Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani, performing a ChaChaCha, scored a 27. I would have scored it a 28. Gilles Marini & Cheryl Burke, performing the Salsa, scored another perfect 30. Len said: " I wish I had an 11 paddle". Carrie Ann gave him a standing ovation. Bruno said: Lil'Kim was there in his pants." It was a great performance. Shawn Johnson & Mark Ballas, performing the Jive, scored a 26. It was a crowd-pleaser and should have scored a 29. Ty Murray & Chelsie Hightower, performing the Samba, scored a 23. It was not a good dance. You saw him lose his concentration and miss some of the steps. Score was better then I thought. I scored it a 20. The combined scores, for the night, showing first to last are: Gilles Marini & Cheryl Burke with 60, Shawn Johnson & Mark Ballas with 56, Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani with 55 and Ty Murray & Chelsie Hightower with 48. It is now up to the fans to decide who will be eliminated, Tues May 12. They all deserve to be in the finals but Ty Murray should be the Star to go.moreless

    This episode was a little weird because of the first half hour. I wasn't sure what was going on because the couples came on stage like they were going to dance, but then they just ended up talking about their breakthrough dances. That was a trifle odd...the dances were great! Ty Murray has really kicked it into gear this week! He was much, much better than last week. Speaking of his dance, I loved their samba. Chelsie's outfit was adorable! =D Gilles got a perfect 60. His dances were okay, but they didn't really hold my interest like Shawn and Melissa's did. One thing I really liked about this episode was the little excerpts they had about the stars and where they were before the show. Melissa's was awesome because I was filled in on what happened on The Bachelor (I don't watch that show, Shawn's was cool because it showed her in gymnastics when she was little, and Ty's was cute because it showed his baby pictures XD Gilles's was good too, but it wasn't really as interesting as the others....no offense Gilles!     Four couples, eight dances.

    Starting things off this week were Melissa and Tony. They started with the quickstep. I thought it was lively and wonderful. Bruno and Carrie Ann felt it was a bit off. Their cha cha cha failed to impress. Melissa was not consistent in her steps, Bruno said. This landed them in a disappointing third place.

    Gilles and Cheryl were next. They floated across the floor in an elegant waltz. The judges felt it was flawless and I had to agree. The salsa did not appeal to me as much, but the judges felt it was better than the first dance. They ended up with the only 60 so far, only 3rd and 5th perfect score of this season.

    Shawn and Mark are hot off their best score with the Paso Doble last week. They followed up with another strong performance doing the Argentine Tango. It earned them their only perfect score. The jive was fun, but had too little content for some of the judges. Their total put them only 1 point above Melissa and Tony.

    Ty and Chelsie rounded out the evening. Their Viennese Waltz was adequate, but compared to Gilles, it was clearly substandard. The Samba was just awful. Again, they are the bottom couple. After months of work, the loser does not make it to the finals next week. It was high pressure tonight. I am not sure everyone responded well. Only Gilles and Cheryl were sharp for both of their dances. We shall see who makes it to the top three.moreless
