Simon Girty was a real life frontiersman who went to live among the Indians at an early age. He sided with the British and their Indian allies during the Revolutionary War and afterwards. Girty, according to some accounts, was an active participant in several Indian massacres which occurred on the frontier. During that era the name of Simon Girty was about as popular in America as Osama Bin Laden is today.
Girty: Nothin' thirstier than totin' furs.
Boone: Simon Girty! Shame on you. In broad daylight too.
Girty I'm a barrel of black powder and I just got lit off.
Girty (after being dunked in the creek): Nobody laughs at Simon Girty. Nobody.
Daniel (to Rebecca) You know you move quieter than most Indians.
Daniel (to Rebecca): Without guns the Girtys are somewhat short on teeth.
Daniel: The only friendly country I know is six feet deep.
Daniel: It's your move, Girty.
Girty: My last, Boone. I always finish first.
Yadkin (to Mingo): First time I ever thought an Injun could be beautiful.
Yadkin: I never been this far downriver before, Dan'l. What's it like down here?
Daniel: Smooth as a mill pond.
Mingo: To touch a chief's grave is suicide.
Daniel: So's fightin' four rifles with one.
Girty (to Daniel): Until I figure out what's goin' on here I like you just fine the way you are.
Mingo (about the Girtys): Shall I kill 'em now, Daniel?
Daniel: Why, when they can scare themselves to death?
