Ruth: So you're one of these sentimentalists who don't believe in slavery, huh? Daniel: I don't know that I'm sentimental about it. I just don't believe in it.

Daniel: So you're a professional slave catcher. You told me you were a hunter. Ruth: Yes, a manhunter.

Daniel (to Ruth): We're a long way from civilization. There's only one thing that's gonna prevail and it's not arguin'.

Nimrod (after scaring away the Hurons): It's better they hadn't seen us at all but as long as they have it's better they think we are devils.

Ruth: So this is Nimrod's route. Straight into the haunted land of the Hurons. Church: Nimrod's probably the one that haunts it.

Daniel: I think maybe we're being followed but not by Hurons. Mingo: You mean John Ruth and Millard Church.

Ruth: You're a fool, Boone. Those are slaves not people. They don't feel about things the way you would. Daniel: They feel the same way. You have to want freedom pretty bad to walk all the way to Canada half naked and barefooted.

Naomi: You a long ways from your people? Mingo: In this condition about a thousand miles.

Nimrod: I'm the one that almost killed Mingo. I'm stayin' by until he's well.

Daniel: Think they've stopped runnin' yet? Nimrod: No, and I don't blame 'em either.
