The writer of this episode did do some homework with one bit of dialogue where Aaron Burr states that his only child is a daughter. Theodosia Burr died in a shipwreck off the coast of the Carolinas in 1812.
In this episode, Daniel Boone chases Aaron Burr trying to save Jericho Jones from getting mixed up with the act of treason that Burr has planned. But as is the case with many episodes, it plays loose with historical facts. Daniel Boone was born in 1734. He would have been over 70 at the time period in which this episode was supposed to have taken place.
This episode is based upon an incident in the life of the real Aaron Burr where he supposedly plotted with the Spanish to break off a huge chunk of American territory for them and himself to run. Whether or not Burr actually plotted against his own country has been a matter of debate among historians for years.
Cincinnatus: Aaron Burr? Vice-President of the United States? Burr: Ex vice-president.
Jericho: No one ever knows when opportunity might knock.
Mingo: It seems Jericho judges a man but the type of his boots.
Rebecca: Why can't the men of Boonesborough be as gallant as that? Daniel: I guess we just have limited talents.
Daniel (to Burr): Talk never hurt anyone.
Daniel (about Burr's duel with Hamilton): Seems to me it had nothing to do with luck only who's the most expert with a gun.
Daniel: Rich. Important. Powerful. That sounds like three thunder claps, Mr. Burr.
Burr: You must trust me, Mr. Boone. Daniel: That's just it, I can't. Burr: Well why not? Daniel: Because you don't give me a single trustful feeling in my bones.
Burr: The mouth of the Cumberland River. I must be there in ten days. Can you get me there? Jericho: Mr. Burr, for $200 I can get you there in a week.
Daniel: Jericho, I don't believe you got the experience for this kind of trip. Jericho: I got enough, and it's all learned from you.
Burr: I think you've said enough. Daniel: Have I? Well I haven't even started yet.
Daniel: Leamus, why don't you go play with your bagpipe?
Burr: And what will you do when we arrive? Jericho: Collect my money.
Jericho (to Leamus): There's one thing I do know--a gentleman isn't a snob. Burr: Touche.
Burr (about the pistols): Are you sure you've never fired one of these before? Jericho: I've never aimed one of these before.
Jericho (about the pistol): This little thing's got a kick. Burr: Of course, lad. Everything dangerous has.
Leamus (to Jericho): Your hide's not worth saving. You got a small mind and a mean soul.
Mingo (about the whistling): It's Jericho all right. He's off-key.
Jericho: Money isn't everything. Daniel: That's not what you said back in Boonesborough.
Burr: Do you know what you are, Mr. Boone? You are my first prisoner of war.
Burr: What do you intend to do with me? Daniel: I was your prisoner of war, Mr. Burr. Now you're mine.
Jericho: I wanna go back to Boonesborough. I wanna go home. Daniel: That's just where we're goin'.
Daniel (to Burr): You're as slippery as a greased pig, aren't you?
Leif Erickson would appear once more in River Passage.
This episode, which takes place in 1805, illustrates an inconsistency regarding the series. It frequently jumped back and forth several decades in time often from one episode to the next. You'd have an episode set in the 1770's during the Revolutionary War period followed by one set in 1800.
