Israel: Pa, what would you do if you never saw me again? Daniel: I'm afraid I wouldn't do very well.

Jasper (to Rebecca): You can call me Jasper. The only Mr. Ledbedder I knew was my pa.

Jasper: You're everything people say you are. Daniel: Well, I hope not everything.

Mingo: Daniel, I'm beginning to think you and I have been sent on a fool's errand. Daniel: I'm glad to hear you say that. I don't like feelin' foolish all by myself.

Jasper: How soon do you expect to get there? Mingo: Well now, that's hard to say since we don't know where we're going. Jasper: Will there be a lot of Shawnee? Daniel: They'll be enough to go around.

Jasper: I may not be any use on this trip but I certainly know how to keep my eyes open. [falls asleep]

Rebecca: There are times when I wish Dan wasn't such a man of his word. Cincinnatus: Then he wouldn't be Dan'l Boone and you wouldn't like that neither.

Cincinnatus: I do admire a strong woman just as long as I ain't married to her.

Daniel: Jasper, it seems to me you have a real unhealthy curiousity about Indian cemetaries.

Jasper: The good Lord looks after fools and little children.

Mingo (about Jasper): He doesn't look all that tired to me. Daniel: Mingo, you're a suspicious man. Mingo: It's the Indian in me. I don't trust all you palefaces.
