The King's Shilling is unique among Daniel Boone episodes in that it was the only one to be directed by a woman, Ida Lupino. Ms. Lupino was a prolific TV director of that era and was one of the few women in Hollywood during that period to gain consistent employment in that position. What Ms. Lupino gives fans of Daniel Boone is a good episode with some good performances by a mostly unknown group of guest stars. Plus you have a very good script with some depth to it. Check out The King's Shilling if it's ever rerun on TV Land. It's proof that a female director can succeed in a genre ordinarily reserved for males.
