Israel: A man don't stand a chance with a house full of women.
Israel (about Nitashanta): Maybe he's taken a vow not to talk to palefaces.
Israel: What are you thinkin', pa? Daniel: I'm thinkin' that if you found an Indian we've found a pack of trouble.
Mingo (to Daniel about Watowah): His idea of the happy hunting ground would be a place where he could burn you at the stake every night and twice on Sunday.
Rebecca: Do you think Daniel can explain? Mingo: I've never known Daniel to be at a loss for words before.
Israel: Boy, I sure made a heap of trouble for pa.
Israel: Golly, pa, you know everything. Daniel: I reckon there's one or two things I mighta forgot.
Daniel (to Israel): When you say Indian, you're sayin' smart.
Daniel (to Gray Elk): A bellyache's a bellyache no matter if you're Indian or white.
Gray Elk: I will not forget that you have been a friend to us. Daniel: If that's supposed to make me feel any better you're wastin' your time.
Watowah: See where the sun is, Boone? When it goes down behind the hill you will die. The gods have willed it so. Daniel: I have a feeling the gods had a little help from you.
Daniel (to Mingo): You were almost a little late.
This episode marks the only appearance of Hannibal A. Goose in the show's second season. Hannibal, who had earlier earned himself a suspension due to surly behavior on the set, was brought back to the show after a massive letter writing campaign. But alas for poor Hannibal, it was all for naught. After taking 32 takes to complete a scene, Hannibal was released from the show for good.
This episode has a similar title to an episode of The Twilight Zone entitled The Old Man in the Cave.
