Gideon's back, which was worked over with a whip, appears to recover much quicker than if such an event had really happened.
Daniel: It's Gideon's knife. I oughta know. I gave it to him.
Enoch: Well, Boone, whatta you got to say now? Daniel: I say we don't know anymore than we did.
Daniel (to the tavern mob about Gideon): If any of his rights are denied by anyone of us then we're murderers ourselves.
Gideon: You think I killed him, Hoss? Daniel: Not if you say you didn't.
Gideon (to Daniel about the events of the murder): It ain't too convincin' a story, is it?
Gideon: Looks like I got caught between a rock and a hard place, Hoss. What am I gonna do? Daniel: About the only thing you can do--give yourself up.
Gideon (about the mob): What were you sayin' about a fair trial, Hoss? I should have cut and run when I had the chance.
Daniel (to the mob): I've heard all the threats and accusations I wanna hear. Gideon's right behind that door but if you wanna get at him you gotta come through me.
Daniel (about the mob): They're not gonna hang you. Gideon: That's an easy thing for you to say. It ain't your head that's waitin' for the noose.
Daniel: What's gonna happen to Little Dan'l, your son, if you cut and run? Gideon: What's gonna happen to him after they've hung me?
Cincinnatus (to Enoch): If I have to cater to a lynch mob in order to make a livin' then I am just gonna retire.
