Danny and Maddie end up at a cabin owned by Vlad in Colorado on their way to a symposium in Florida.

"Superb"
While Danny is planning to spend a weekend training with his powers, Maddie gets an invitation to a mother-son science symposium in Florida. Danny reluctantly goes along, but they somehow end up in Colorado! There, they run into Vlad Masters! He lets them stay at his cabin, but they leave a short while later after he asks them to stay there for good. But Vlad brings Danny back, where he uses a device to short-circuit his powers! He is left to run for it and hope Maddie can fight off the ghost animals Vlad sends out. Back home, more ghost animals have been sent by Vlad to attack Jack! Jazz jumps in to help out her father, somehow enjoying the experience.
I thought this episode was quite enjoyable and also gave me a somewhat sense of relief to the disappointing Lucky in Love which premiered a week before this.
The opening, while it had nothing to do with the plot, was very interesting and it showed that Danny really wants to improve with his powers as much as possible. The fact that Tucker and Sam were there surprised me a bit, because they hadn’t appeared in Bitter Reunions and considering the summary, it didn’t look like they would play a part. Anyway, it was way impressive to see Danny’s flight speed, and it was fun to see his overshadowing of Tucker (again). His blasting of the cardboard Jazz didn’t bother me; I thought it was quite funny. I can’t say I liked that he sort of nonchalantly phased through the walls, but I guess it was fine. And it was funny when Danny phased Tucker through the floor and Sam went, “Wow! It’s quiet in here!”
One thing I enjoyed was the mother/son as well as father/daughter bonding in this episode. Seeing Maddie fighting the ghost animals without trouble was very cool, and she didn’t have any cheesy hero type lines that threw it off like in PE. As for Jack, he was much better with his brand of ghost fighting than usual. Probably because Jazz was in danger, that caused him to excel. That’s also why he fought better than usual at the end of MDG. Seeing Jazz getting into the ghost fighting was very fun, and her wearing of Maddie’s jumpsuit was a nice touch. Despite what she says, she probably isn’t done with ghost fighting completely.
Danny was done quite well in this episode. As I said before, the fact that he wanted to train instead of doing anything else was very dedicated for him. Also, the fact that he was trying to duplicate, but only managed another head, was very funny, as well as when he tried to change back but ended up with one eye. Danny was IC by not wanting to go on the trip, as well as his remarks about Maddie not having a cell phone. And his remarks and overall spite towards Vlad were done very well, and that scene where they’re leaving and he tells Vlad to get a cat was hilarious. His comments when Maddie was pretending to flirt with Vlad were really funny as well, especially his remarks about what would happen from 12:00 to 12:02. And I’m sure he was feeling sick at seeing Maddie pretending to be all sweet with Vlad, which is why his “I’ll be over there, barfing,” line made sense.
As for Vlad, he was still the sinister guy that he was in BR, although I didn’t like him quite as much here. I mean, that line he had with Maddie about dumping Jack and staying with him? You don’t say that to a married woman! He definitely got what he deserved when Maddie just stormed out like that, which I enjoyed whole-heartedly. Also, his disguising of his name as a company was pretty sneaky. I didn’t figure that out right away. And the fact that he sent his animals after Danny pretending to be bad at math was quite sly and evil, and it was pretty sweet to see Danny return the favor at the end. But how exactly has he seen Danny’s grades? His scene with Danny before his powers came back seemed too quick. Danny just says he wants to stay with him, and he instantly falls for it and Danny gets the Specter Deflector on him? Is he that gullible?
And the final fight between Danny and Vlad, while I liked that Danny was able to win, it was still done too easily. I give it some credit since Vlad’s strength was limited, but getting the belt on him was too easy as well. He only managed one hit before a few punches and a soft blow knocks him down. But the calling of his animals was quite sinister, a bit reminiscent of SoG. And Danny’s quick thinking of pointing out their pelts was good.
There are only a couple things I didn’t like. The backwash joke kind of bored me a bit, as well as Jack not recognizing the ghost delivering the invitation. It seemed OOC for him. And I wasn’t that fond of Maddie not finding a phone, but finding tractors, a helicopter, etc. and disregarding them was FOP-ish.
But it failed to affect how much I liked this episode that much. There was a lot of humor and family bonding in this episode, and I give MI a 9.5/10. It ranks as my fifth favorite of all time.
