  • Ember's back!

    9.8
    "Superb"
I thought the 'M. BersBack' was really creative! :)

    "That's not a clue- that's a billboard!"

"We've really gotta start paying more attention in these things!"

And there was awesome animation! I also loved seeing Danny get the school to work together- he has such good leadership! Talk about teamwork!

"You're one brave geek, Fenton! When I'm wailing on you tomorrow, I'll be wailing on hero. But I will be wailing on you."- By Dash's standards, that's a compliment.

The scene where the kids fight Ember, Youngblood and the rest of the pirates was the best- along with where he flies everyone off the ship. Phantastic episode!

Yay! I was so happy when I saw that Ember was back, and as, what better, a pirate! I thought the plot was great and I liked how Danny got each one of his classmates together in helping him save all of their parents. Danny was so adorable in his father's orange jumpsuits and the whole episode was funny and entertaining. I liked how Youngblood was working with Ember, too. The two of them both hate adults, and the two of them working together was well thought out and planned. Good job Butch and your team, this was defintaly a great episode.
  • Ember teams up with a pirate named Youngblood in an attempt to kidnap all adults.

This episode was very exciting and adventurous. It was funny to see Danny get ignored by everyone, but then in the end they are all forced to listen to him to save their parents. It was funny to see Danny and all of his classmates in the same outfit that Jack wears. It was also pretty interesting to see Danny fight Ember and Youngblood without his powers. My favorite part was when Dash and Danny are fighting back to back and then Dash says to Danny, 'When I'm wailing on you tomorrow, I'll be wailing on a hero. But I will be wailing on you.'
  • Ember returns with a hypnotic song, working with a kid pirate captain named Youngblood to capture the adults.

One day some strange song gets every adult in Amity Park listening. Danny then has to fight off a kid pirate captain named Youngblood, and his crew of ghosts. After the fight, he finds out Jazz and his parents have gone on a cruise, along with every other adult in Amity Park. After listening closely to the song, the trio discovers the song is telling the adults to come to the cruise, and Ember is the one broadcasting it! As their parents are captured on a pirate ship with a ghost shield, Danny Fenton must lead the kids on board to rescue them.

I have to admit, I was looking more forward to PR than the excellent DD that aired a week before, but I was met with results that weren’t so excellent, even though it was still a pretty good episode.

The opening was done very well. The animation they had for the shots of the sky was amazing, it made the stars look lovely, and I also enjoy that the trio enjoys doing fun stuff like star-gazing. As for the pirate attack on Fenton Works, I felt it could have been better, but it was still pretty cool. I enjoyed that Youngblood always had to turn to his parrot for advice on pirate lingo. I can understand that Danny would underestimate Youngblood because he was so young, but I thought Youngblood got his shots in on Danny a bit too easily. Also, I didn’t quite get the “He said ‘booty’” gag. But other than that, very good.

The segment after the opener was done somewhat okay. This might just be a matter of opinion, but I didn’t like that Danny went to change the station on the radio that much. I thought it was a little rude, but that’s probably me, since I would normally walk out of the room. But Danny did that later on, so it’s alright. I was a little concerned that Jack ignored the alarm of the Ghost Shield being gone, but I’ll let it go since it was probably the song doing it.

As for Danny, I liked him throughout most of the episode. I liked that he tried to get the kids excited about putting good music on the school’s radio station, despite the fact that he was basically ignored. The fact that Tucker and Sam’s attempts to support him were feeble didn’t bother me; I certainly feel uncomfortable being the only one in a crowd to shout something. And his being suspicious about the cruise was pretty good as well, although I would’ve first expected that from Sam (more on that later). Also, his being the somewhat leader of the Casper High kids to get their parents back was nice, but that whole phase certainly could’ve been done better (also, more on that later).

I was able to find Youngblood plenty funny and a bit more impressive than I really thought he would. I was expecting Ember to take center-stage, but I actually found this pretty good as well. As I mentioned, his turning to his parrot for proper pirate lingo was funny, and he was also, as he said, mature beyond his years. His fighting abilities and leadership skills were quite impressive for him being so young.

I was hoping Ember played a bigger role as a villain in PR, but she still played a pretty good one. And I liked that she abandoned Youngblood when things started going down. Very sinister. I was also hoping Danny would be more spiteful towards her after the events of FtF; it was also something I had expected in DD.

I had a problem with Sam in this episode. The fact that she cared more about the radio station that being suspicious about the adults being gone was quite OOC, since she’s usually the one of the trio that is the most logical. But her being happy that her parents were gone didn’t bother me THAT much, since she pretty much has it hard with parents like hers. But she improved very much over the course of the episode. I know some were bothered with the end where Sam pointed out that Danny let them use the op-center, but not so much for me. She probably couldn’t tell what was going on with how far away she was.

I could definitely notice the threat in this episode, but I honestly don’t think it was addressed as being one by the teens. I was hoping they would be much more worried that their parents were in danger. The only sign of that was when Paulina yelled, “Hey! They got my parents!” After that, Kwan celebrated, and everyone started fighting. I enjoyed Danny taking charge, but there wasn’t enough energy in his role as leader, IMO.

Some humor in this episode was very good, but others were goofy gags that didn’t suit me. I thought the trio’s little part where they spoke simultaneously about that song was funny, but I wish it would’ve appeared more. And Danny’s remark about not being invited to a party at his house was hilarious. I also liked Sam’s remark about Jack being the second biggest blimp in the family, and where the control for the op-center was. And I also liked when the parrot said, “So what’s powering the ship?” when the adults ran off. But I didn’t enjoy Danny’s remarks to Paulina as Phantom. “You should make out with him”? “Wrap your mind around Paulina Fenton”? Oy. That’s something Tucker would say, not Danny. And Maddie’s cry of “At last!” was sort of funny, but not that much.

The animation was very sweet with the shots of the ship flying. And the music to go with it was very proper for what was going on. Quite theatrical. Also, the shot with Ember’s hair flying out like fire…awesome. And the fights they had were pretty cool, although I wished the last one could’ve gone longer.

The ending started pretty mediocre, but picked up. When Jack confronted Danny about possibly taking the op-center, I thought he should’ve said they were being controlled by a ghost and he used it to save them. Also, how could he have guessed that Danny used the op-center at all? And I didn’t like that he was grounded for that long. But when it showed the pirates trapped on the ship, thanks to Tucker, that was very cool. A bit harsh, but IC for Tucker and appropriate for the little punk.

All in all, PR was an enjoyable episode. I give it 8.2/10.
  • Embers back and ready to rock!

You might think your parent needs some exercise but not if it means a ghost plot is to take place. The ghosts set up a cruse to attract the adults. Once their on the ship it’s down hill from there. No cruse. Just a hoax. Youngblood gets his pirate crew to take the rest of the over 30’s (adults) and puts them on his ship. They will be his fuel source for the ship. He will then order his men to take exercise equipment from the Casper High weight room and put those on his ship too. The over 30’s will exercise on the boat against their will. Why can’t they just stop exercising when they please and leave the ship? Well first they are floating in the air on a ghost ship. Second Ember is playing music to keep them motovatied so the ship will run. When other music jams the air waves that’s not good so and Sam continues to play music and jam the air waves while Danny and every other student go up to the ship and deactivated from with in.

Cool. Cool. Cool. Simple as that it was an awsome episode. It was funny had action. and Ember is back. I like her shes another fave villan of mine.

This episode was very well written also. Even though it would'nt be on my top 5. It was still a great episode.

    "Great"
I didn’t find this episode as good as the others, probably because it started off very slowly and only picked up halfway once the ghost ship takes off with the parents inside. Another reason why I didn’t enjoy it was because I found Youngblood very annoying. If they had put an older pirate or one that was more fierce or spooky looking, say like a Skulker pirate, this would have been much better.

But as I mentioned before, this episode does pickup once Danny creates his team and they all fight to save their parents. It was great to see Danny convince Dash, Paulina and other students to follow his lead all by himself, without using any powers. Besides, it was hilarious to watch Tucker disguised as a grandpa.

So I give this rating an 8/10, because I feel it had more potential.
  • Teamwork always pays off, and this episode proves it. Danny must team up with every kid in the school- even the popular kids which he hates so much- to save his parents and everyone elses' from a ten-year-old pirate and an old enemy who's back and 'ready

Oh. My. Gosh. This episode is one of my ultimate favorites! Youngblood is brought to life beautifully by Taylor Lautner (The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl, Cheaper By the Dozone 2), excellent animation, and and excellent plot. Guy Moon does it again with an absolutely superb musical score that makes you want to just get up and dance. The voice actors did fabulous in this episode as well, along with some brand new characters introduced. I ADORE this episode!!!

Pirate music... can't... get... it... out... of... my... head!
  • Ember's back and teamed up with the 10-year old cut-throat pirate boy, Youngblood to steal the Fenton Ghost Shield and use the adults to power their pirate ship. Now Danny Fenton has to rally the teens together to stop them and get their parents back.

    8.3
    "Great"
I don't know why everyone's being so hard on this episode. I thought it was pretty well done; I'm not gonna say flawless, but still amusing. I liked Taylor Lautner as Youngblood. He did a good job. I was afraid that he'd sound too old or too scripted, but he pulled it off. Plus, it's a relief to see a voice actor who's really a child and not in their 30's or 40's. I also noted that Youngblood was able to both teleport and use eyebeams. Maybe a child's soul can easier tap into his spiritual power than an adult one.

It was good to see Ember again, although I heard a few spots where she sounded more like Spectra than Ember. But who cares? It was worth seeing her in that old-fashioned get-up. Nice... And S. Scott Bullock, for a regular playing a guest star, did a great job with the parrot. I expected it to be more chirpy like a stereotypical parrot, but the British aristocrat voice was both funny and a breath of fresh air.

I liked the pirate-style music that they added during the more action-packed scenes, it really added to the theme. And I found it interesting that Danny actually got some respect, although short term as Dash and Paulina made clear, as boss.

I also enjoyed seeing Sam's parents again, if only in cameos. Call me crazy, but I like them; they give a different perspective of Sam.

Now for what I didn't like. There's not actually too much; I'm not saying this was flawless or a 'gotta see' episode, but it was still good, especially the Parrot's blow-up at Youngblood. "Oh, shut your gob, you twit!" That was classic. Although I think it adds realism and a future trauma to Danny's character, I'm a little cross at how Danny keeps getting the short end of the stick after saving lives, but I guess that's teen angst coupled with Superher angst, huh? Overall, a good episode. Looking forward to "Identity Crisis" which is airing next Wednesday here in Canada, in proper order BEFORE "Reign Storm." But I'm still looking forward to that one, BIGTIME!
  • When Youngblood and Ember steal the Fenton Ghost shield and hypnotize the adults of Amityville in an evil plot to take over the world, it's up to Danny and his fellow students at Casper High to stop them before chaos really ensues!

    "Good"
I wanted to like this episode. I really did. I mean, what's cooler than pirate ghosts, especially ones with flaming hair? Plus, the opportunity to see human!Danny leading his fellow students on an assault against the ghostly pirates is not one to be missed.

As much potential as this episode had, however, the sad truth is that this episode simply didn't meet the mark. It was painfully obvious that the writers didn't put much effort into this episode because, frankly, the dialogue and the jokes sucked. I also wish they'd be less blase about Danny's transformations around those not in on his secret. If the ghost shield hadn't prevented him, Danny would have transformed right in front of a large number of his fellow students when they boarded the pirate ship! Did he really believe that no one would notice something like that? The citizens of Amityville may not be the most perceptive people in the world, but they're not idiots either. Is a little more continuity too much to ask for?

This was a very funny episode, Ember and Youngblood make a very good team, the humor was well paced, I busted up laughing whenever youngblood couldn't get the word right which was all the time, not much of a pirate. The parrot was more of a pirate then he was. I give it a 10/10

I like the pirate theme and the cool music.Ember being in this this episode spoiled it a little because I wanted it to be just Youngblood and the ghost pirates.I enjoy watching Ember in other episodes but I realy like Technus. I realy like youngblood forgetting his pirate lingo and having his parrot remind him.

On the Plus Side: New character's and okay fighting scenes.

On the Downside: Danny does not get his butt kicked by a 10 year old boy. Period. Youngblood tend's to get annoying at multiple times. And Finally, jokes are told at the wrong time.

So if your looking for a good Danny Phantom episode, I'd recommend watching "Reign Storm."
  • Oh, More Ember! That Lovely Ghost We\'ve All Come to Know and Love...(Mostly Because She Forces Us To...)

    5.0
    "Mediocre"
This is episode, while, not altogether a piece of poo, wasn\'t all that great either. I didn\'t like how long it took Danny, Sam, and Tucker to figure out that the horrible \"easy-listening\" music that was captivating their parents was really the work of that oh-so-loveable-brainwashing-ghost Ember (Honestly, the fact that the music was having strange effects on them would\'ve tipped me off immediately, but that\'s just me).

The fact that the other main villian was a little kid Pirate, Youngblood, was simaltaneously cute and annoying. Cute, because he kept getting his pirate-ling wrong, and annoying because of basically the one word gag, \"Booty\". Come on, I can see the kid having fun with that, but Tucker?

I was also disappointed at the lack of intelligence on the part of all of the kids who were a part of the impromptu rescue mission--who could anyone miss the fact that Danny \"mysteriously\" went missing, and the ghost kid shows up, sounding exactly like him? Why do writers make characters who aren\'t in on the secret such morons? Surely someone with half a brain would notice that the two sound exactly the same and when one is around, the other is nowhere to be found?

All in all, the entire episode was just filler, serving no real purpose.

the plot was very well thought out and it also had a nice share of humor in it. I think that Butch and his crew did another fine job of creating another terrific episode of this series. I really like the fact of teamwork being used in this episode. I also think Ember looks better in a pirate suit. And also, having a kid for a captain, that sounds like The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker. The episode was probably the best in the second season.I hope they make more episode about Ember I like her

Just that forgetting pirate lingo thing was funny altogether i think. But it was kinda creepy in the begining with all the adults acting all weird and peppy and happy all the time. But that added humor in it I guess. It was kinda unfair though that Danny had to get grounded at the end. But...thats parents, always ruining you fun (mostly).
  • The episode was an awesome one to watch, I laughed, and I thought it was also very cool, when they stormed the ghost ship. I also thought Youngblood was funny, but seeing how he kept blowing Danny with cannon balls, he's definitely one of Danny's most pow

"Pirate Radio" features a young pirate ghost named Youngblood and his skeleton crew attacking the FentonWorks home and robbing it of its ghost-shield. When they strike again at Casper High and all the adults in Amity Park both become enamoured with a strange song and set off for a cruise, Danny becomes suspicious. It appears that Ember has returned and allied herself with Youngblood. Their deal - if Youngblood can take the adults out, he can put them to work on the gym equipment to power his ship, and with the adults out of the way, Ember can take over the world!

I was worried about this episode. I thought it sounded very contrived, cartoonish, and OTT, and it had me worried.

Looking at it now...I won't say I liked it, but it definately wasn't as bad as I had been fearing.

I'll start with what I didn't like, just so I can get it out of the way. I *really* did not like the way some of the characters were portrayed in this episode. I had the most trouble with Sam. We've seen her to be the smart, clever member of the trio who takes problems, issues, and ghost threats seriously. She picked up on Skulker, she kept her head during FtF with Ember, she warned Danny about getting rid of the sword in FN...in all of the other episodes so far, she's been the one to stay focused on the problems, even when the boys aren't. That she would completely ignore all the warning signs in this episode about what the pirates were up to and how the song played into it just seemed completely OOC to me. I'd expect Tucker to act like that, and when he did I had no problem with it, but Sam...it seems like she'd pick up on the danger. Instead, she's worrying about the radio station. That really bothered me, especially since she even picks up on smaller worries that involve just the trio's personal problems (Danny's grades, Tucker's accepting himself, etc.). And then at the end, when she taps on the window and makes it clear that Danny messed with the equipment in the lab...she had to have seen that he was in trouble! She was right there! Sam is one of my favourite characters, and this ep doesn't change that, but IMO, it seemed like Sam and Tucker switched minds in this ep...except Tucker still seemed IC.

I liked Danny through most of this episode. His picking up on the warning signs seemed IC. He's not always the best at picking those up, but with big things like this, he can tell what's going on, and I liked how he did that. But his lines to Paulina when he became Danny Phantom..."You should make out with him (Fenton)?" "Consider Paulina 'Fenton?'" This seemed very cocky and too sleazy for him. Other than one line in DD in answer to one of Sam's comments, he was pretty shy around Paulina in DD, and in almost every other episode where he has to be in contact with her like this. His acting like this seemed really OOC. It seemed like he was hitting on her like Tucker would - only it wasn't funny and it was a bit more nasty IMO.

And, a purely personal issue here - I know Paulina has a purpose on the show, and I'd like to see her stay. But I just think she's been showing up way too much. I'm getting sick of her. Again, purely personal note here on character preference, but I think she should take a backseat for a while.

The reason why the description worried me was because the idea of all the adults being taken away and the entire adolescent populace rallying to the rescue seemed like a cliched, overly cartoonish plot. It sounded like "The Jimmy Neutron Movie" to me. Nothing against that show or that style of animation, but IMO, devices like that just don't cut it on DP. The way it was played out wasn't as bad as I was afraid of. Only Casper High students were invovled, and it wasn't as overblown as it sounded. But it didn't really have any real drive to it IMO. It just seemed like a sequence of events played out to get the story done. There was no real emotion involved. No one really got nervous over their parents' being captured, Danny did an OK job as the leader but he also didn't have any real drive IMO, and it just seemed kind of...empty. I don't know what really is missing or what, but I just didn't really feel any need to cheer the characters on, because it didn't feel like they were faced with anything.

And some of the jokes bugged me - mainly Maddie's outcry "AT LAST!" at the end. I'd rate that with Jack's comment that Jazz was his favourite as being overly mean-spirited IMO.

Now, for what I *did* like. I really liked the animation in this episode. The colour scheme was perfect, the attention to detail in that star-filled background in the beginning, andthe animation of the pirate ship were all incredible. And Ember's hair setting the whole ship ablaze at the end - breathtaking. I loved that shot. Kudos to all the animators!

And I liked Tucker being the one to sneak aboard the ship and shut off the shield. Nice way to keep him active. And I liked his setting it to trap Youngblood in at the end. A bit cruel, but very Tucker and quite frankly, I thought the brat could use it.

I was expecting to really have a dislike for Youngblood. And I found him to be an irritating little brat. But he did have some good comedic value. I liked the joke with him having to consult his parrot for the proper pirate lingo. Nice touch there.

Ember's return...like Spectra in DD, I was expecting Danny to have a bit more of a grudge against her, but she seemed alright in this episode. Very...Ember. And I liked that she abandoned Youngblood at the end when things went rough. Cruel, villainous, and mean-spirited, but it fit.

And I'm a huge fan of old, classic swashbucklers like "Captain Blood" and "The Sea Hawk," so having a battle on a pirate ship and some kind of mini-sword fight between Danny and Youngblood for a few moments was a lot of fun for me.

All and all...6/10. It's not my favourite, but I was really fearing this episode, so it's kind of a relief the way I ended up taking it in.
