Episode Summary

It's time for Danny and his classmates to take their Career Aptitude Test (C.A.T.), and of course Danny is freaking out. He's been so busy hunting ghosts that he hasn't had any time to study or even think about his future. But, far in the distant reaches of the Ghost Zone, places no one has even heard of, a pair of beings called the Observants have been keeping an eye on Danny's future for him, and they don't like what they see. Danny finds a way to cheat on the test, well, he had a choice; to cheat or not to cheat, and since he never studied, he had no choice but to cheat. Danny's decision causes a tragic chain reaction that spells doom his family, friends, for all of Amity Park, and himself. Now, they are sending a ghost named Clockwork, who has the power to control time, to do anything it takes to stop Danny from heading down the path that will ultimately cause him to renounce his humanity and turn into the evil Dark Danny. Can Danny, with the help of Sam, Tucker, Jazz, and a new power, prevent the inevitable and change of the entire world's future? Or, will the evil Dark Danny find a way to travel ten years back in time to insure that a tragedy occurs that hurts 14-year-old Danny Fenton so deeply that his only choice will be to turn to the dark side forever?moreless

When this episode first aired, I was initially nervous about it. When I heard about the plot, I was afraid of the reprecusions of Danny's cheating. What can I say? I just don't like to see Danny (or any kid hero for that matter) end up in hot water with elders (because of that, Control Freaks is my least favorite episode in the series). Because of this feeling, I passed on the original airing of the episode, along with other future airings. However, eventually, I grew to watch parts of the episode gradually. It wasn't until I read Dark Danny's bio in Wikipedia two years ago that I grew really interested. Finally, I willed myself to watch the whole thing. Okay, not the entire thing, but I watched enough to get the idea of the plot. I was quite relieved with how the ending went (true, Danny got a little detention, but at least it wasn't worse than that). What I really found interesting was Danny's Ghostly Wail. True, initially it would drain Danny like a battery, but he eventually fully mastered it. The ending I believe, was really suspenseful. I believe Butch wrote it that way just in case Nick decided to order more DP eps. I do hope Nick decides to bring Danny back soon. Hopefully if he does, the S4 opening will feature the return of Danny's dark side. In my opinion, Dark Danny is perhaps the most interesting villain in the series.moreless

The Ultimate Enemy is my solemn most favorite episode. It had Vlad and Clockwork . . . you just know it is going to be good. I love Dark Danny! He rocks my socks! I also like the front view of Sam just before we meet Clockwork. I think they did an excellent job on this episode. It was also great how everyone found out his secret, but by the end of the eppi no one knew (except Danny, Sam, Tucker, and Jazz). Dark Danny is the best villain in the entire show. And you just got to love his voice!moreless

  • Best. Movie. Ever.

Alright, we've had Spongebob, Fairlu OddParents, and Jimmy Neutron become movies. Here's Danny's turn!
I remember when Nick started advertising for it. I got so excited, I even still have all my Burger King toys from the tie-in. I always play my GBA game, and usually on my DS's charger, `cuz I can't keep my fingers off the buttons! And when I finally saw it...WOW!!!!!!

The voices were great! Same with well, everything else! I was a bit disapointed with the lack of DxS moments, but it was still great. I was so shocked when I found out that the "ultimate enemy" was Danny! My mouth was hanging wide open like the cartoons through the whole thing!

I was surprised that this episode didn't end up in theaters. It had that "feel" to it that you get in a movie theater movie. And I was also surprised that this episode even aired. I mean, it's WICKED dark for a show aimed toward kids seven and up. But then again, most of the DP fandom is shown in college students.

I LOL'd at future Valarie's comment on Danny being cute. Well, let's face it, Danny's really cute. And his line about having older women like him (like liking him, he means) could be a refrence to the fandom.

I really liked how dark this episode was, since I never saw this come from Nick. The feeling was MUCH different from Chalkzone, which is a Nicktoon filled with sugar coated with sugar dumped in sugar. DP is DARK with a capital D.

I also cried at some parts. Having everyone dead, and seeing the look on Danny's face was so sad (I just wanted to hug that kid at that moment)! And having Dark Danny kill his human form, wow, Nick. And even the green "ghost blood" on Danny...still awes me how Nickelodeon showed that. I heard that DP was cancelled because it was too dark (and had some sexual refrences throughout season 2).

This is a really great episode, and I taped it off my VCR. I recomend it to all DP fans, but one thing: although Danny Phantom is for children aged 7 and up and has nothing really bad in it (except for some inside jokes), I suggest this for Danny Phantom fans aged 13 and up.moreless

  • Danny Fenton has fought his fair share of ghost, but never one this powerful or malevolent. Himself.

This episode was SUPERB. The best in my (and a lot of others) opinion. It had just the right about of angst, violence, drama, suspense, and really bad puns! It also shows two of the best characters in the series: Dark Danny and Clockwork. The only reason I had rated it a 9.5 and not 10 was because of some of the plot-holes, some big some small. (I.E. Ember becoming fat because Dark Danny had ruined her vocal chords with the ghostly wail, though he'd gotten that ability just recently, as in like a day or so. So, how was she able to gain all that weight in such a short amount of time?) But, what do you except from an episode that's dealing with TIME? Yeah, it can get pretty confusing.moreless

That was so much better than I had expected. The voice actor for Dark Danny was perfect for the episode. I hate that they cancelled Danny Phantom because it means we wont be able to hear Dark Danny talk again. Even though he does creep me out a little bit, I loved this episode and thought it was one of the best. One thing i thought could be better was how they kept going back and forth in time, and one character here, and the future in the next scene, and then what could have happened if we had went back and changed this and then.....(that wasnt supposed to make sense at all) Still, it was great and I will be watching this episode many more times in the future.moreless
