  • A dull, unfunny, un - Daria like and just poor episode from a once great series.

After ruining Jane's hair dye, Daria and Jane terminate their friendship and Daria realises with resentment that she has fallen in love with Jane's boyfriend Tom. Had i not seen the show before, from this storyline i'd think this was a cheesy soap opera and not a so - called alternative animated comedy. This episode just fails on all counts.

Firstly, there's almost nothing remotely funny this episode; Daria's Dad supplies a few one - liners but not enough to make us crack a smile after being bombarded with dreary filler. While Daria is an openly jaded character she was always seen as an overall amusing character with her dry wit and cynicism but all of this is muted as her friendship and love crisis has seen her act as the serious and mopey girl that perhaps she's meant to be. Had they of taken the premise for the first half of the episode (Jane desperately trying to get Daria mad) and made it more funny then this would've been a great episode but the sulky plot twist and painful ending deems this probably the worst written episode to date. The visuals and audio is fine but it's been wasted on an episode not worthy of it's nice animation and voice talent.

On the whole this episode's saving grace is that it's quite short, everything else is horrible.

Okay, I had to stop this one before it was over. It's pretty bad, unless you like mopey teen dramas (like Dawson's Creek, or the OC, or Archie, or something like that). Like I said; it's pretty bad.

The first half of the episode consists of Jane trying really hard to PO Daria, then asks for help with an unusual hair-dying job. (It's not as interesting as I just made it seem.)

Anyway, the strange love triangle that was forced into the series, it explodes here, and leaves Daria, Jane, and... uh, 'guy', all mopey and moony-eyed. Both of the typically emotionless, monotone characters are sad, and randy, and angry, and brutally honest, and back-stabbing, and filled with teenage lust. Very UN-DARIA. Out-of-character, so completely out-of-character. This episode was possibly written by Pecey himself.

(Fast-forwards through the last 10 minutes..) .... gahh. Daria goes to her mom for support.. Jane just is a rambling, incoherrent train.. and Thom makes me wish both Daria and Jane were actually lesbians. Did I mention Trent is unexplainably profound for no apparent raisin?

*Note, season finale means 'Kick the drama up a notch!!' ... well, this finale kicks it up 5 notches.
  • I wanted to put revealing too, but its much more pivotal...

I was in total shock after watching this episode, 1) because i couldnt believe that Daria would do this. 2) i couldnt believe Tom would do this. Still, i saw it coming and was actually looking foward to it. I have this episode recorded and every now and again, when theres nothing else on, i watch it. Its a good episode, albeiot a scandilous one. I love it, and if you watched this one, and "I loathe a Parade", you'd love it too. Man, Daria had a dark...er side than most people knew she had. Its always the quiet ones...
  • Jane asks Daria to dye her hair.

I thought Jane's idea of having blond tiger stripes was very cool. I would so love having tiger stripes in my hair, of course I would use temporary midnight black hair dye since my hair color is a strawberry blond. I also liked the part where Daria and Tom kissed, that's when I first heard one of No Doubt's songs, I think it was called "Simple Kind of Life". Those lyrics were so deep. I miss No Doubt, they were so awesome. Anyway, it's a shame to what happened to Jane and Tom, but I could tell that they were going to break up sooner or later, and I did sense a bit of chemistry between Daria and Tom.
