Daria leaves a note in Kevin's locker which reads: "Thank you for letting me give you homework. XOX"
The characters attend Modern Day High. They will of course in later episodes attend Lawndale High.
Kevin is reading Dangerous Muscle Enhancers magazine.
When Daria says that she baked some heart-shaped cookies for Kevin you get to see a closeup of the cookies and the cookies look nothing like hearts.
When the Morgendorffers are at the dinner table, Daria has a plate in front of her. When Daria gets up to answer the doorbell, the plate has disappeared.
When Daria asks Kevin if she can borrow his pencil, the pencil disappears and then reappears.
Kevin: (to Daria, about Quinn) Man, I never would have thought you'd be sisters with somebody hot.
Helen: Quinn, there were four calls on the machine from a "Kevin." Jake: (sigh) Doesn't he have your beeper number?
Brittany: Manipulator! Pinhead! Weasel! Kevin: Hey hey hey hey...Slow down. What was the first one?
(Kevin explains to Daria that he already has a girlfriend.) Kevin: We can still be friends though. Daria: Thanks, Kevin. That helps. Kevin: Great! Can I borrow your science homework?
Jane: You should find a safe legal alternative to kill him. Daria: I already have. When I'll be done with him, there'll be nothing else but jelly. Jane: Well, you don't have to do anything to his brain.
Kevin: Let's not play games, Daria. You desire me, don't you? Daria: Uh, excuse me? Kevin: I can tell. It's like a fifth sense I got.
Daria: I just got blown off by a guy I didn't even go after.
This is the only time you will see Daria smile with all of her teeth.
Where to see it: For now, it is only available on the Daria video, available in stores or online. Snippets of this episode were also shown on MTV's Behind the Scenes with Daria.
Differences: Daria sounds the same, but is drawn with longer legs and a more pronounced figure (as opposed to the regular episodes). Jane looks and sounds the same, but Helen and Jake sound slightly different, as does Quinn, who is wearing a different outfit than usual (the shirt from "The Invitation" plus shorts and knee socks). Brittany and Kevin also look and sound slightly different, with Brittany sounding more like the current Quinn. All the personalities are pretty much the same... except for Daria, who is much more saucy than in the regular episodes (or in Beavis and Butt-head, for that matter). The city of Lawndale also does not yet have a name, and Daria attends "Modern Day High School."
This short animatic episode was developed to give the executives at MTV a rough idea of what the show would be all about. Since it was basically intended as a "sampler," it has a very unfinished feel to it (simple black and white drawings, animatic-style, with voices and sound) and will probably never be aired. Karen Disher, production designer on Daria, was given the task of creating the look and feel of the characters and locations, though both would evolve a great deal by the time the show premiered with "Esteemsters" (#101).
