Dark Angel

Max is holding a dead Tinga in her arms as Lydecker and his goons look on. She finally sees him, then flies at him in rage. Unfortunately, she's electrocuted and falls to the ground. Lydecker and his crew escape, taking Max with them.

Zack returns to Logan's apartment where he's dressing the gunshot wound in his leg. They both agree they need to find Max and take down Manticore, but they'll need the help of X-5's to do the job. Zack reveals he's already called Syl and Krit; they're on their way.

Lydecker takes Max to a seedy hotel where he rents the whole place and pays a lot of money not to be disturbed. Max has been sedated, but he handcuffs her to the bed. He then sits down to drink a bottle of Jack Daniels. As he gets more and more drunk, he keeps mumbling about Manticore as Max begins to awaken and hear him. He then pulls out a gun, intent on killing Max and then himself so they won't be at the mercy of Madame X. Max comes fully awake and kicks Lydecker before he can shoot her. He reveals to her that she didn't kill Tinga, and he's worried about the fate of the rest of the X-5's.

Meanwhile, Madame X has taken over the search for Max using the implant in her neck. The search team finds Max and sends a team to capture her. When they arrive at the hotel, Max and Lydecker are gone.

Suddenly, Max busts through the doors of a warehouse where Zack, Syl, Krit, and Logan have gathered to start planning their mission. She reveals that she has brought Lydecker along to help them. The rest of the gang is skeptical, but Max is able to convince them. They realize they're going to need help accessing the DNA lab at Manticore since Lydecker's security clearance has most likely been revoked. Lydecker goes to see his friend Jim from Johannesburg that was leading the search team for Max. He knocks the guy out, then steals his eyeball.

As Max and the X-5's complete their planning, a crow ominously flies into the warehouse. The X-5's remember the night they escaped and the crows in the forest. They are worried about the meaning of the omen, but know they must press on. As they prepare to leave, Max says goodbye to Logan, telling him that she'd kiss him but she needs to keep her head in the game.

Once the team arrives at Manticore, Zack and Max use the eyeball to gain access to the DNA lab to set up the explosive charges. Logan has hacked into the security cameras and looped the feed so that their presence is undetected. However, security informs Madame X that someone has accessed the DNA lab using Jim's eye. Since Jim is sitting in front of her, minus one eye, she knows they have intruders. She sounds the alert to release the group of X-7's that are on base. Logan is able to lock the door, preventing their release, but they soon break down the door and run after the X-5 intruder team. Once the team is clear, Lydecker blows the charges, but not before Max has another run-in with Brin. She wins this time, handcuffing Brin's arm and leg to a pipe.

Outside of Manticore, Max and the others are fleeing through the woods. Max encounters what looks to be the younger version of herself but is actually an X-7 that resembles her. Max asks, "Do you know how I am?" The X-7 shoots her. Max avoids the shot and fights the X-7, eventually overpowering her. She and the others run to safety.

Later, everyone's hanging at Crash. Max and Original Cindy are playing foosball, Herbal's talking with Zack, Sketchy's hitting on Syl, and Logan's talking with Krit. Even Lydecker is there. Max and Zack discuss that they are now free; they won't have to run anymore. Zack says he'll still be looking out for his little sister and, by the way, Logan's okay with him. Max smiles, then walks up to Logan and whispers seductively, "Let's get outta here…"

Max and Logan are somewhere where there's a bed, finally able to give in to their desires. As they lay there kissing, Max notices a black crow flying overhead. Startled, she looks at Logan who pulls away his hand covered with blood. Max panics and asks what's going on.

Flashback to the woods, where the X-7 fires at Max. The previous segment was a dream. Max falls to the ground. We then see Zack get wounded as well. Logan calls to Max over their comms, then leaves when he gets no response. He comes upon a bleeding Max, then takes her in his arms and tells her she's going to be okay. Max tries to tell Logan something she should have told him a while ago, but he tells her it can wait. Max dies in his arms. Broken, Logan tries to get her up, intending to take her back to Manticore for help. Lydecker finds him and says they have to leave her. Logan refuses, so Lydecker knocks him out with his gun. He returns to the van with Logan, and Syl and Krit meet him there. Zack's been captured, and Max is KIA.

The Manticore medics have found Max and bring her into their lab, where they attempt to resuscitate her. While they are trying, a wounded Zack is also brought in. He is upset to see Max. The medics tell Madame X that Max is gone, and she instructs them to prepare the body for organ harvest. Zack screams, breaks his restraints, grabs a gun from the guard and grabs Madame X. He says to give Max a new heart. Madame X says she needs an X-5 heart, and there are none available. Zack pushes her away, then puts the gun to his head and pulls the trigger.

Later, Max wakes up to see Madame X. She comes in to taunt Max about returning to what she was meant to be; thanks to Zack's heart, they'll both be returning to Manticore.

Logan is sitting on top of the space needle and, in a voice-over, talking about Max. He says it feels like it happened to someone else or was maybe a story he once heard. Even though he knows what happened, he still can't help feeling that she's not really gone—maybe she's still out there.
