WTF?! Ugh. I had a whole diatribe written out here! I guess I'll start over.
My Logan hate really stems from my Michael Weatherly hate for ruining the show. The reason Logan didn't have much to do in terms of action in season 2 was because he was never supposed to be in season 2--which had absolutely nothing to do with Alec's character being introduced. But if you want to talk about who was eating time, it was Logan who took up Alec's more appreciated screen time.
Michael Weatherly signed onto the Dark Angel project for 1 year, at the end of which his character was supposed to die--a noble death of a hero--instead of Zack. Unfortunately, by then Weatherly was already screwing the star of the show and got her to pull a diva to keep his job. Alba actually threatened to walk off the show if he wasn't kept on.
The network didn't have a huge issue getting rid of Zack, they didn't really see the actor meshing with Alba anyways. They had, however, fallen in love with Jensen Ackles who played Ben in Pollo Loco, so they invited him back instead--much to the delight of the fans, who for many, Alec was season 2's saving grace.
Upon the introduction of these two new characters, Weatherly and Alba were both rather childish with their on-set relationship. The Asha character, played by Ashley Scott, never got to fully bloom because Alba was insecure--as was MW of Jensen Ackles. Their frustration with this direction was explained in jest by both Ackles and Scott in a featurette on the s2 dvds in which both talk about, "Oh haha, well yeah she was uncomfortable, I'm trying to steal her/his boyfriend/girlfriend on the show! *haha*" (thanks for being a sport Ashley!) (*not exact quotes) It's called acting douche-bags. That really frustrates me.
Anyways, as the season progressed and the behind the scenes antics escalated--from MW demanding re-writes if Alec got more lines/screen time, MW line counting, Alba being a diva, her anorexia--which was so bad at times they had to delay shooting because she couldn't stop shaking, and the MW-Alba trailor trysts, which delayed shooting--the two didn't endear themselves to the writers or network to say the least--Hence the lame a-s virus, and the snark directed towards Logan, usually via Alec. You'll notice how often Alec is saying exactly what the audience is thinking--see "You're so whipped" (Two), "If you're not happy, then I'm not happy" (Brainiac, I believe), 'When Logan deciphered the runes and Alec's snarky, "Well ofcourse he did (or something to that effect)"' (FN).
Not even Cameron could save the show with his directing of the finale. He was, however, a last minute fill-in for John Savage (Deck) because MW wanted to run a marathon and they had to move shooting around his schedule. Alec's role was greatly diminished after Cameron was through with it--obviously, since he didn't have the same vision as the writers and Savage, since he was actually rarely involved in the show. Alba and MW lived up Cameron's a-s.
MW actually even tried to become a producer on the show--to ensure that the ML and not MA storyline was pursued, as was requested by the network. And even though everyone thought the show was going to be picked up--Jensen Ackles said he had signed onto several more seasons of Dark Angel with Fox before its cancellation, and Alba was about to fly back to Vancouver to shoot when they called her to turn around since the show was cancelled. In the end it looked like the netword and writers didn't feel like the show was worth the trouble--with the mediocre to poor ratings and the drama behind the scenes, the axed it.
And that is why I can't control my gag reflex when Logan/MW comes on screen. If it was just the boring ol' Logan character I would still not like him (see my Logan-only diatribe on page 1), but it was really all the antics that went on and lead to the ruination of the show that really draws my ire. Thus I hate Michael Weatherly and Logan.
But hey, to each his own, if you're into that I guess.
...Wow, that's a lot longer than I thought it was.
