  • For the many stories working in this ep, it was great writing in my opinion.

    7.8
Bringing Annie into the mix was great. Joshua could have someone and didn't have to hide who he was...kind of.

Sad what happened between Logan and Max but still a good filler to put their relationship on hold.

I LOVED the interaction between Max and Alec. They have come to accept each other more and its cool.

    Good times.
  • Also a pivotal episode as tension over the transgenics mounts...

    8.6
This episode was sad on so many levels. To begin with, Max and Logan make contact with one another which puts Logan into the hospital. It's finally realized that a transfusion of transgenic blood (other than Max's, of course) will likely help him fight the virus. So, Logan receives some of Joshua's blood in order to save his life. Unfortunately, the whole experience shakes Max up so much that she drastically decides to cut Logan out of her life completely; she doesn't want to risk his life again. Logan is heartbroken; he knows that being without her is worse than the complications of being with her. But, Max is determined. In the end, she lets him believe that she's moved on with Alec, telling him that it's over-- get used to it.

Secondly, there's Joshua. Joshua meets a new friend, who's blind, thus enabling him to safely enjoy her company. She has no idea that he's a transgenic. Her sweet spirit charms Joshua immediately, and he quickly begins falling for her. Unfortunately for Joshua, he is convinced by Alec to end things with her now before he puts her life at risk.

Thirdly, there's Alec. Alec gets arrested for the murders that his Manticore clone, Ben, committed, which forces Max to deal with the pain surrounding her last encounter with Ben. She finally tells Alec what happened the year before when Ben snapped and went on a killing spree and how she killed him at his request. Alec understands now some of the difficulty she's had with him and finally begins to soften where Max is concerned.

Lastly, there's the general transgenic tension, which is this show's way of dealing with "racial" issues. Only it's not races that we know, it's transgenics. "Everyone's afraid of what they don't understand" is the line being repeated by Max and Joshua. In this episode, those fears come to a tragic head as the diabolical White sacrifices the life a mutant transgenic in a way that also exposes their existence to the world. The incident sends Max, Alec, and Joshua scurrying to protect themselves.

With tension building, the climax isn't far off...moreless
  • Finally after a disappointing episodes, we get a great one here...

    8.5
This was a great episode and one of the better episodes in season 2 I think. We have Max & Logan ending their relationship (temporarily of course), a touching "love not meant to be" with Joshua & Annie, and Max painfully remembering how she killed Ben, Alec's twin (an X-5 turned serial killer from season 1). Plus this episode has a lot of flashbacks to season 1, which I enjoyed. And we get to hate Agent White a little more due to his killing of the innocent "Mule." All in all a fine episode worthy of Dark Angel. It just makes you wonder why they all couldn't be up to this standard. Fox had the talent (writers, producers, actors) and the brilliant storyline with Dark Angel. Unfortunately, they wasted it too much of the time in season 2 I think. But this one was a good one!moreless
  • transgenics are exposed!

    10
this was a great episode, but it pissed me off so bad i just wanted to break something! and when a show makes you feel that way that means its good, and man was it good. alec tells max that they shouldnt be with humans cuz its bad and can hurt them so when her and logan accedently touch, she dumps him! and that just pissed me off to no end! and then when alec gets arrested she doesent want to save him! what did she all the sudden just hate him and then she thinks alec could kill that boy and she was being a total bytch to him! then logan sees them together and he asumes that they like each other! and then she tells him its true, what was she thinking!?!?! but logan is cute drunk. also joshua meets a blind girl and they are just so cute together and i really wanted him to tell her what he was but no! alec convenced him to break it off also, so now their all miserable cuz they are all stupid!moreless

  • TRIVIA (5)

    • When Joshua is donating his blood to Logan in order to save his life, Logan should have immediately died anyway. The scene shows the transfusion tube hooked up to Logan's arm before it has been filled with blood - a major medical mistake. The blood from Joshua would push all the air in the tube in front of it into Logan's arm, causing an air embolism. It would have stopped Logan's heart!

    • TRIVIA: The TV that Alec is watching in Joshua's house has the words "Harbor Lights Hospital" written on the bottom.

    • TRIVIA: The rap song playing on the TV right before Alec and Joshua see the news bulletin is Closet Freak by Cee-Lo.

    • Mike Mitchell, the stunt coordinator for Dark Angel, plays "Mule" in this episode.

    • TRIVIA: Ben's story and the events referred to here occurred in the first season 1 episode "Pollo Loco".

  • QUOTES (21)

    • Logan: Look, I'm fine. Everything turned out okay.
Max: We got lucky. Again. I mean, how many miracles do you think we're gonna get?
Logan: Do I get a vote?

    • Logan (to Max): I've been where you are, remember? Thinking it was all too hard. But I realized being away from you was worse.

    • Joshua: Love to have dinner.
Annie: Great! I live down the street, across from…
Joshua: No! Here. Because…uh…I love to cook. Do you like macaroni and cheese?

    • Max (referring to Alec): Not like saving his butt isn't already my full-time job.

    • Max (thinking Alec killed someone): I'm sorry I let you out of Manticore. I'm sorry I inflicted you on the world. Screw exposure. I'm leaving you here for White to deal with.

    • Alec: Max, I'm not complaining, but what made you think I didn't do it? I'm just curious. Was it the sincerity in my eyes? Some people say I have sincere eyes.

    • Alec: So, the thing that's got me worried is I can't exactly use, "Well, I was locked up in a secret government facility" as my alibi.

    • Max: I'm not gonna see (Logan) anymore.
      Alec: Any more this week?

    • Annie: Sometimes people feel sorry for me. I can hear it in their voices when they talk to me. I guess it's 'cause I can't do everything they do.
Joshua: You can…you can go out and you can talk to people. You could go to Crash and party and dance…

    • Logan (drunk & preventing Max from leaving): I could keep you here all night...at least till I drop dead.
Max: I've said everything I needed to say.
Logan: I don't think so. I think there's something else... or is it someone else?
      Max: What?
Logan (referring to Alec): I needed to talk to you, so I came by your apartment (laughs) and I saw him leaving. I mean, if I've got it wrong, just say so... tell me it's not true.
Max: I can't... it's over, we're done, get used to it.

    • Alec (with Annie at Joshua's door, after a special news bulletin about Mule being shot): Send her away, Josh, alright? Let her go before she falls in love with you, before she wants you to meet her family, before you get yourself killed, before you get her killed. Send her away.

    • Alec: Turns out my dead twin brother was a psycho killer...go figure.

    • Alec: Must be hard, huh? Having me around? Some guy with Ben's face, making you think about things you'd rather forget?
Max: Yeah, it's probably why I'm such a bitch to you sometimes.
Alec: Maybe...or you know, maybe it's because I'm such a pain in the ass sometimes.

    • Max (about Ben): We were in the woods, he was hurt, Manticore was closing in on us... he didn't want to go back there.
      Alec: Re-indoctrination… or worse.
Max: I killed him...he asked me to so I did. Then I ran, I saved myself and I just left his body there for them to take away.

    • Alec (to Asha): You don't wanna get involved with me. I mean, I was made in a lab. You know, I spent my formative years learning the fine art of assassination. There are guys out there right now looking to kill me and… I'm sure someday they'll probably succeed.

    • Alec: So...you got any deep thoughts you want to share? Any profound realizations about life?
      Max: Yeah, love sucks.

    • Logan (pouring another drink): So Sandeman is one of White's cult loonies, huh? Woo-hoo.

    • Alec: Welcome to the world of attention deficit.

    • Alec: Logan could use a little canine plasma to loosen him up.

    • Logan: I wandered all over the hospital looking for you with the back of my gown open.

    • Logan: You said all of White's cult pals have one?
Max: Yep. Right here. (She shows her inside forearm) I saw it when they were saluting their holy snake god, or whatever the hell it was.

  • NOTES (0)

  • ALLUSIONS (1)

    • Max: You know what, all work, no play makes Logan a dull, dull boy.

This is a reference to the 1980 movie The Shining, which was based on Stephen King's novel. Jack (played by Jack Nicholson) turns psycho when caretaking at a hotel over the winter. Jack was writing a novel on his spare time, but instead of a story, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" was repeated over and over.
