Cally, Doyle, Vern and Omen get Lance out of the comic but in doing so Omen gets caught by the puppet master, an evil counterpart to Doyle, who's been pulling the strings all along.
Vern finds a way to take a psychic journey through all the back issues of Dark Oracle, but this allows Omen to escape the comic and return to the real world.
Vern's magical skills have advanced to the point that he is going to create his own "familiar", so Cally and Lance try to use clues from the book to locate it before it hatches. Meanwhile, Dizzy is falling in love with Cally's friend Rebecca.
