I love this show, and I have seen the first 5 volumes of the DVD releases, but vol 1 starts with the arrival of Barnabas (ep #210). Why didn't they release dvds for the first 210 episodes of DS?

quite simply because the series was pretty boring until Barnabas came along. However, I just read on tvshowsondvd.com that when the run finishes in volume 26, they will begin releasing the first 206 episodes of dark shadows beginning with volme 27, tentatively scheduled for release in February 2007

The first eps will be released by MPI Home Video, and for a while at least they will be available exclusively through the site's DS DVD club. (So no finding them on Amazon.)

The original eps were pretty good IMHO. You do have to pretty into DS to appreciate them though.

well i don't think it's BORING per say. TRUE it starts to get EXTREMLY GOOD when he enters the show. buut it was a good show before that. it just got by far MUCH BETTER when he came into the show. i've seen the entire show a few times. & it takes awhile to get into the show at the start of the series cuz it's a bit slow. cuz it's still introducing the characters. & you can't fit THAT much into 30 minutes ya know? well 22 or 25 isn't it? minus commericals. least back than.

I have watched through #40 and do not find the shows boring at all. I'll have to re-evaluate when Barnabus arrives on the scene.

Yes, The Beginning is actually quite good. It also features the first supernatural creature, Laura (the Phoenix). And great lines like (Carolyn to Vicky): "These walls shouldn't be paneled, they should be padded." You can also btw see Harvey Keitel (at least, so I've heard) in a couple Blue Whale scenes. And there's also the original Willie Loomis to contend with (not to mention the original Sam Evans and the original Matthew Morgan).

i was referring to before "Laura" came onto the show. in short the very 1st episode until a certain point. the acting is better as well

Laura, the Phoenix, has just arrived on the scene, based on where I am in the series. The character is quite haunting. Ironically the next day I had some business to attend to in a local building called The Phoenix. I think Josette Collins' supernatural powers has reached across time, space, and dvds.

Doo doo doo doo (that's the Twilight Zone theme there)

One of the coolest things I think about Laura is Diana Millay's droll acting style. I love the offhand way she says she's from Phoenix right at the start!...lol

see i think she's a terrible actress. she's ok in some parts, but in others she's terrible. i never understood why people love her so much? thought it is a good storyline.
