  • The conclusion of the pilot for this wonderful series.

Darkwing Duck has rescued Gosalyn from Taurus Bullba's henchmen and has taken her to his secret hideout to keep her safe. Taurus thinks he knows Darkwing's character and offer to surrender to him. Darkwing jumps at the chance and leaves to meet Taurus Bullba. Taurus's condor spots Darkwing Duck when he leave and now they know the location of his hideout. Hammerhead, Hoof, and Mouth go and get Gosalyn. They fail and the condor grabs her. Darkwing Duck arrives at the meeting place and Taurus Bullba appears. He tells Darkwing that it was all a ploy and he now has Gosalyn...moreless
  • This is where the whole thing started. The wrap-up to the pilot of one of my all-time favorite cartoon series.

Hey, looking back, I have to very definitely admit that this and the previous part were a truly awesome pilot to a great cartoon. Mere words can not describe this prelude to some downright terrific material. DW's shifts from supremely confident to majorly bummed and then back to determined and focused hero was truly something to see. Bulba was a downright powerful, ruthless AND intelligent villain, which made it all the more satisifying to see DW pull himself together and defeat him. I also absolutely loved seeing Gosalyn giving Bulba's goons a major run for her money. LP really DID prove to be a terrific sidekick when he was really needed too. All in all, a brilliant piece of work that served as a great reminder of how good Disney animated television once was, making it all the sadder when you think about some of the stuff Disney's tried to do in recent years. :-Dmoreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • When Gosalyn first shows DW the picture of her and her grandfather, the buttons on the console are mostly dark gray with a yellow one. When DW looks at it later, they're different colors.

  • QUOTES (12)

    • Darkwing: I am the terror that flaps in the night, I am the thing that goes bump in the night, I am the neurosis that requires a five hundred dollar an hour shrink, I am Darkwing Duck!

    • Hammerhead: But boss, what if he doesn't know Morse code?
Taurus Bullba: Please! He probably still sleeps with his Boy Scout guide under his pillow!
      (Back at Darkwing's hideout)
Darkwing Duck: (Sees the flashes and recognizes that it's Morse code pulls the Boy Scout guide out from under his pillow) I'm sure glad I kept this baby!

    • Gosalyn: I found this in the closet. (she puts the helmet on Darkwing) How come you don't wear it when your riding your bike?
Darkwing: (takes it off) It's not dramatic.
      Gosayln: Neither are scrambled brains.

    • Gosalyn: I'm sorry, Darkwing. If they hadn't caught me, you wouldn't have risked your life.
Darkwing: Gos, before I met you, I didn't have a life worth risking.

    • Darkwing: We need to blow an entry hole into that thing.
Launchpad: I don't know, DW. It sounds dangerous.
Darkwing: Yeah? Well, then... Let's get dangerous!

    • Crook: You were lucky last time.
      Darkwing: I was lucky everytime.

    • Gosalyn: I can't sleep!
Darkwing: You just need something to relax you. I know I've got a mallet around here somewhere...

    • Darkwing Duck: What is a "Waddlemeyer Ramrod" anyway?
(Gosalyn Waddlemeyer inhales before speaking quickly.)
Gosalyn: It's a trachyon-specific device that disrupts gravitational bonds on a molecular level that allows manipulation on a macro scale.
      Darkwing: What does that mean?
Gosalyn: I dunno... I think it makes things float an' stuff.

    • Darkwing: I am the jailer who throws away the key!

    • Darkwing: I am the chill that runs up your spine!

    • Clovis: Mom was right. I should of been a dental hygienist.

    • Darkwing: All that's missing is the floppy shoes and the Bozo nose! Go ahead and hit me, I'll fold like a napkin.

  • NOTES (4)

    • On the VHS release of this episode, the scene where Darkwing is in jail is longer. It shows him telling the crook he shared his cell with to go ahead and punch him, because he deserved it, and would go down easily:

Crook: You were lucky last time.
Darkwing: I was lucky every time.

For some reason, it was cut for the television airing.

    • Final appearance of Hoof and Mouth although Hammerhead does appear in a later episode In Like Blunt.

    • This episode introduces Darkwing Duck's plane, built by Launchpad: The Thunderquack.

    • This episode was released on Walt Disney home video titled: Darkly Dawns the Duck.
