When Darkwing takes off his bell boy disguise and puts on his hat, his face mask magically appears.
(They spot Steelbeak and Ammonia Pine playing cards)
Darkwing: It's Steelbeak and Ammonia Pine!
(Ammonia wins the game and vacuums up the chips)
Launchpad: Looks like Ammonia's cleaning up.
J. Gander: (To Derek Blunt) Phineas knows your techniques all too well, yet Darkwing Duck will be the wild card he'll never expect.
Darkwing: Oh, yeah, that's me all over, a real wild card!
Derek Blunt: Obviously, the joker of the deck.
J. Gander: Then there was...(Shows Darkwing a can of Tuna)
Darkwing: A can of tuna?
J. Gander: Agent Campbell. Undercover man at a fish packing plant.
Darkwing: Eww. (Sets can down) Canned on the job, eh?
J. Gander: Two of my best agents, frozen in a bar of banana ripple delight. What an appalling end.
Darkwing: (Appears through the window) Absolutely chilling.
Hammerhead Hannigan has a different voice here than in Darkly Dawns the Duck.
t is very likely that the name Derek Blunt is a reference to Anthony F. Blunt, one of the infamous 'Cambridge Spies'. He, along with another three men: Guy Francis de Moncy Burgess; Donald Maclean; and Harold Adrian Russell, worked as a Soviet Spy for over 30 years. The four men met at Cambridge, and actively served the KGB against British and American interests, going down in history as the greatest spies of the 20th century.
Blunt (1907-1983), both recruited for the KGB, and transmitted secret documents to Russia. He was an Art History scholar, who rose to be both the director of the Courtauld Institute, and the Keeper of the Queen's Pictures, and was even knighted.
While the four men were eventually exposed, they were never caught.
According to the Production Number of this episode, this was to be the 2nd episode to air.
The only appearance of Derek Blunt.
Final appearance of Hammerhead.
Watch for cameo appearances by the Beagle Boys, Flintheart Glomgold, and Magica deSpell from "DuckTales".
Darkwing Duck exists in the same continuity as many of the other Disney cartoon series. In addition to Launchpad and GizmoDuck's appearances in the series, Magica DeSpell, Flintheart Glomgold, and the Beagle Boys from DuckTales can be seen in crowd shots during "In Like Blunt."
The title of this episode, 'In like Blunt' is a reference to the 1967 spy film In like Flint.
This is a sequel to the film, 'Our Man Flint', and stars James Coburn in the title role. It is a spy spoof, following on from the sucess of the James Bond films, and sees secret agent Dereck Flint sent to the Virgin Islands to stop a group of women with plans for world domination. The women are kidnapping astronauts and replacing them with evil doubles as part of a plan to get access to Missle sites all over the world. It's a very silly, goofy film. The lead character in this episode even shares his first name with Flint.
