- The Harpes in this episode are based on the real-life Micajah and Wiley Harp, a pair of outlaw brothers considered to be America's first serial killers. After a killing spree across Tennessee and Kentucky, they teamed up with a band of pirates at Cave-in Rock led by Sam Mason (another real-life figure depicted in this episode). When the Harps arrived, the pirates began murdering as well as plundering.
