(Georgie brushes ants off of the seat of his pants) Georgie: Them Kentucky ants got a bite like an alligator. Davy: Ain't too particular about what they chaw on, neither.
Mike Fink: I can out-run, out-jump, out-sing, out-swim, out-dance, out-shoot, out-eat, out-drink... Davy Crockett: Out-talk? Mike Fink: Out-talk, out-cuss, out-fight anybody in the whole Mississippi and Ohio Rivers put together!
William Bakewell, who played Major Norton in "Davy Crockett, Indian Fighter" and "Davy Crockett Goes to Congress," appears in a cameo as the master of ceremonies of the keelboat race.
Kenneth Tobey, who plays Jocko, previously appeared as Jim Bowie in "Davy Crockett at the Alamo."
Mike Fink (d. 1823) was a brawler and riverboat man who was known as the "king of the keelboats." Though he is played for laughs in this episode, many of the traits displayed (shooting whiskey off the heads of his men) were based on the real Fink. Davy Crockett himself described Fink as "half horse and half alligator," and the real Fink (like Jeff York) wore a red feather in his cap to signal his defeat of every strong man up and down the river.
