  • Jen is getting herself in trouble while Dawson and Joey face their first mini-crisis

    7.0
The most annoying things in this episode:

    - The weird fight between Dawson's parents. Why did Mitch propose that open marriage thing? It's dumb...

    - Dawson forgetting Pacey's birthday. I was feeling really sorry for Pacey!

    - Dawson reading Joey's diary. Come on! That's a no-go. Especially in the first week. I don't believe it!

So, Joey and Dawson have their first fight and make up again. It was strange though and still I don't really feel them as a couple. But I'm being patient. In the meantime I wait for Pacey and Andy to hook up, they're kinda cute together! So who knows...moreless
  • Dawson reads Joey's diary. Everyone forgets Pacey's birthday.

    8.5
"Crosswords" was an ejoyable episode of Dawson's Creek. It had a few flaws but the character Jack makes up for a lot of what went wrong in this episode. Jack's introduced in this episode. He's hilarious. His character is so shy and akward. He's clusmy and he says the most funniest things ever. What I didn't like about this episode was Dawson reading Joey's diary. He invaded her privacy and that's just wrong. Then he gets mad about what Joey writes and it's not her fault that he read her diary. I also didn't like how Dawson forgot Pacey's birthday. The Pacey and Jen scene was nice to watch as you don't see those characters interect too much at the beginning of the series. I also loved all the Pacey scenes in this episode so that's another reason this episode was still enjoyable despite Dawson reading Joey's diary. I love the end of the episode were Dawson and Pacey make up and they go cruising on the boat. I give this episode a 8.5/10.moreless

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • In this episode Pacey is turning 16 and failing his driving test. So how could he be driving a car in the entire first season when he only was 15?

    • Goof: The episode starts on Pacey's birthday. The next day Dawson tells Pacey about what he read in Joey's journal the night before implying it's the next day. Also, they are at school again wearing different clothes.
Later at the party Dawson tells Pacey, "You were supposed to get your driver's license today." Pacey told Dawson the day before, which was supposed to be his birthday, that he failed his driver's test.
Later in the show there is another reference at the party about that day being Pacey's birthday.

    • Goof: When Dawson and Joey meet at the Pier Party it's raining heavily, and their hair and clothes get soaked soon as they kiss. Later on, they are shown from the rear and their hair is dry and styled only to become very wet again right before Joey goes home. Funny how neither Jen's or Abby's hair appeared wet at all during the party.

  • QUOTES (11)

    • Pacey: I've got a bad case of the Molly Ringwalds today.

    • (To Joey)
Jack: Excuse me, when you have a second would you tell your sister I work here now because she won't let me in the kitchen.

    • Mitch: Remember Dawson: no hat, no glove.
Gale: Mitch, that's supposed to be 'no glove, no love'.

    • Joey: You think you know everything about me Dawson?
Dawson: Come on Jo, we spend most of our waking and sleeping, for that matter, moments together and I think it's fairly safe to say I know everything there is to know about you.
Joey: What you don't know about me Dawson could fill a book.

    • (To Jen)
Pacey: I'm sick and tired of being Dawson Leery's sidekick. I'm going to get my own storyline.

    • Dawson: Mom and Dad, yeah, you remember Joey, right?

    • (Looking at Jen's picture)
Abby: I would throw my mother off a bridge to date a guy who looked like that!

    • Joey: (Talking about what she wrote in her Diary) The truth is Dawson. I've had these feelings for you, for so long. And some days, it would just make me so mad, at me and us. And i had to take it somewhere and unleash it. And it was my way of coping.

    • Dawson: I forgot Pacey's birthday. I'm his best friend, and I forgot his sixteenth birthday.
      Joey: Is he alright.
Dawson: No. He's really hurt, angry, not speaking to me. And I'm all to blame.
      Joey: Sorry Dawson.
Dawson: Yeah, I pretty much suck.

    • (Pacey puts a party invitation onto Andie's car)
Andie: You know, I hate it when people put unsolicited material on private property.
Pacey: You know McPhee, I kinda wish you weren't here right now.
Andie: Put the charm on hold for a second Pacey. I was just curious what the occasion was for.
Pacey: It's my going away party. I'm dying of heart problems, or hadn't you heard.
Andie: (Laughs) Where's your sense of humor.
Pacey: Oh, I have a sense of humor. Its just telling a girl that I'm dying so that she'll go out with me, is just not funny.

    • Jen: Oh hell.
Grams: Don't swear dear. God is listening.
Jen: If he's listening, then he should realize that you're allowed to say it if its heard on network tv.

  • NOTES (4)

    • Although it's never mentioned in the show, it's obvious that Jack and Andie McPhee are fraternal twins since they are in the same grade and graduate at the same time. In addition to that, in one of the episodes Andie calls Jack her big brother and he responds by calling her his big sister. If one was older they would not have referred to each other this way.

    • This marks Kerr Smith's (Jack McPhee) first episode. Kerr Smith will continue to star in the series until the end of the show in 2003.

    • Pacey's birthday was rumored to be changed to fit the fourth season episode The Te of Pacey featuring Pacey's birthday. However Season 2 picks up exactly where Season 1 left off. This left no space in time between the two seasons, creating a time flaw, so maybe in Dawson's Creek timeline, Pacey's birthday is still in January.

    • Music featured in the episode included:
      Good Intentions by Aryana
      Sway by Bic Runga
      Killers by Feeding Like Butterflies
Get 'Em Outta Here by Sprung Monkey
      Always by The Sterlings
Kiss The Rain by Billie Myers
      Luckiest Guy by The MacAnanys
      Dear Mary by Aryana
      Save Tonight by Eagle-Eye Cherry
