I really enjoyed this series, I watched every episode and was interested until the very end. It was very disappointing that it just ended like that after one season, but it was better than nothing. I remember the show being a little corny, funny cut scenes and camera angles, but it was MTV and Dead at 21 was a very good program back the for teenagers. It had a bit of violence and suspense, I remember a few pretty girls in it. This show was definitely a success for MTV and they should have extended it or continued creating programs like this from within their network. Unfortunately we all know how every network went with their programming, being reality based and it's a shame we don't see good TV programs created anymore. If Dead at 21 aired new today, I would still imagine a lot of kids being interested and watching considering what is out there nowadays. Not to mention, I would probably still watch it and be entertained. Great show, maybe a little bit before it's time or just hidden to the "public" being that it was on MTV in 1994.. who honestly remembers the late Summer and early Fall of 1994?
Stumbled across a mention of this series as part of another review and then I started to remember a few bits and pieces of it. I only vaguely remember this series though I do rememember I watched every episode only to find out it was cancelled and ended with a cliff hanger. That sort of thing really chaps my caboose! "Invasion" did the same thing in 2006.
Anyway, a government project put computer chips in babies' brains, and they all grow to be Einsteins. The major drawback was that the chips eventually fail when they reach the age of 21. But the main character Ed only find out when he has 1 year left. So he tries to find a way to get the chip out and save his life. In the end he find a facility with others like him most of whom end up dead. Of course this presented a huge problem, either he gets the chip out and lives and loses his genius powers (rather dull) or he fails and dies (self explanatory). I guess they could have had him hunt down the scientists who did this and kill them all or something but thats about it. It might have made more sense to have him live to be 30 before the chip killed him giving up to 10 years for a series.
This show had a really interesting premise. Unfortunately the execution left a lot to be desired. I can't really put my finger on it, but the whole show left me cold. The acting left a lot to be desired as well. I've liked Jack Noseworthy and Lisa Dean Ryan in other things, but I didn't like either of them in this show. The last episode was a cliffhanger and since it was cancelled we never learned what happened.
