"Good"
The second half of the show begins, it's time for the Opilio Crab season, commonly referred by the fishermen as "opies", and better known as Snow Crab to the layman. There is a good reason why these crabs are known as Snow Crab, because of the harsh weather conditions, that are even more extreme that the ones that the crews of these ships face when they hunt for the King Crab. One of the ships haven't even started fishing for Opilio Crab yet.
Just what happen in the King Crab season, the weather doesn't seem to want to cooperated with the boats, again the weather throws a horrible storm at all of the boats, forcing some of them to stay in the harbor when the weather get better, while others opted to head out to seas despite the weather. While, in the King Crab season, the storm was bad, it wasn't as bad as this one because it wasn't an ice storm that would throw up freezing spray on the boats, which would put a layer of ice about a foot thick on these boats in about a couple of hours, increasing the risk of roll over.
Just what happen in "Heading out to Sea", the Time Bandit, under the command of another Hillstrand brother throws caution to the wind, just like what his brother did in the King Crab season, and I can see why he did this, because of the past performance that the ship had, because they were the first of the ships to get their quota. Something that they want to repeat again. This is one of the many reason why I like this ship out of the trio of three new ships that are being covered in this season, because they are a little rebellious and living up to the name that they give to their ship. But, unlike what happen in the King Crab season, when their little risk paid off for them, with the fact that they caught a break in the weather, it seems that their luck had ran out, because they get hammered by the ice storm, and in a matter of hours their entire ship and their gear is completely covered in ice.
But it seems that the rebellious nature that the crew of the Time Bandit has, seems to be caught on by another ship of the fleet, and this ship is the Rollo, whom during the King Crab season, I got a little disgusted at them with all of the problems that they had with the ship and their crew. Because the Rollo, is fishing in waters that hasn't been fished in years and hopping that this risk on the part of the captain pays off. Unlike what happen with the Time Bandit in this episode, where their gamble didn't paid off for them, the Rollo's gamble did paid off for them. Seeing, I starting to like the Rollo again and I hope that they have a great Opilio season.
The one thing that I didn't like in this episode was the fact that Big Valley was once again mention. Now, I can understand why the producers wanted to show this ship again and refresh the mind of the viewers on the dangers of this job, that one day your are doing great on your ship, and the next day you are doing horrible, but it didn't seem right to bring it again. For, a good majority of the fans of this show know what happen to that ship, either it being them seeing the last season episode where all of the ships of the fleet when looking for the ship, or them seeing the premiere of this season where it was reminded. It would have been better if there was a break between the episode that feature the King Crab season and the Opilio Crab season, to refresh people of what happen last year during this season.moreless
