  • Crazy Horse, the winner of the Little Big Horn battle vs. Pancho Villa, Mexico's freedom champion. Who is deadliest?

This was a remarkable episode, and not just because an American had lost, but because it was Native American as well. In the previous two seasons, the Native Americans have triumphed over their opposition, a Roman gladiator and a Mongol warrior, so to see Pancho Villa get the best of Crazy Horse was very impressive.

In many ways, of course, Crazy Horse had had a much tougher opponent than the Apache and Comanche warriors had in the previous seasons, seeing how he and Pancho Villa lived almost at the same time and used very much the same weapons.

Speaking of the weapons, that is the sticky point (one of them, at any rate) about this episode: in close quarter fighting, Pancho Villa had a 14 inch (35-cm) steel knife, while Crazy Horse had a war club made out of a rock tied to a wooden stick with rawhide. That's just not a particularly fair comparison: since the Shaolin monk vs. the Maori warrior in S1, the idea thatsteel trumps any other material (except for other metals, of course) was firmly established in the DW universe. Was Crazy Horse ripped off?

The other sticky point are the tactics: who got the edge in that showdown, can somebody tell me? DW forgot to show it on TV, it seems. I wonder why...

But tactics and weapon comparisons aside, this was a very good, very impressive episode, and I loved it. The two warriors were quite evenly matched between each other, after all, and the final battle was quite dynamic. Frankly, I think that this is one of the best DW episodes up to date.moreless
